Same, even though I lost one of my long-time stashes (the Dog Trees are the old West Woods) where I could find deep turns days after a storm. It was bittersweet, but a good move for the Basin. First tracks down Castor on a pow day are most excellent as well.

Cold one, but I can confirm LenX is fast and smooth.

New lift is fast, and very nice. Gets cold from windchill it moves so fast, haha. Can't imagine there'll ever be much of a line, never really caught a full chair yet. Definitely a game changer from the old lift, and clears up that bottleneck. They definitely need to open more terrain now to spread folks out though.

Not sure why patrol is moving so slow on openings this year, but they seem to be doing one run at a time per day. Coverage is much better than I've seen for opening terrain in the past.
    So here's some notes:
-Len Parks/ Falcon opened Saturday afternoon. So did Radical/Challenger/Cruising for chicks.
-Standard/13 cornices to lower international opened Sunday afternoon.
-No movement on Pali Face/Spine area.
-Looks like North Glade/Gunbarrel might be next.
-Snow was definitely tricky on openings, punchy and chunky, but very nice in spots, and got better/more broken up and compacted as traffic increased.

Patrol has a lot of new people to train and hasn't had optimal access to upper mountain to have patrollers prepping runs to open until just now with LenX opening. But yea needs more terrain...

They opened some north glade area for a bit then spine/ face area in the afternoon. like stated up above it was pretty punchy and chunky to start, not easy skiing but still fun, then the snow surface started skiing a bit smoother as it got skied up. We managed to get a couple pics on the go.

I like how Al said, "we don't want your money". Telling. Not one CEO has every said that, and on top of it, been honest.

The lot will sit half empty most days while people park up top for free. Just like the reservable beach spots that are rarely full but take up 20 parking spots while they complain about not having enough parking spots...

What happens when the upper lots are full? Will they turn people away or open the lower lot to the afternoon crowd?

Don’t look at the comments, don’t look at the comments, oh damn it !

It’s a midseason gotcha with a sprinkle of greenwashing, but c’est la vie. I’ll follow along and park up high when solo.

I'm sure a green ticket will get you on or close to the beach.

I just tell them I'm picking someone up from medical, then grab an early leaver spot and crack a beer.

See, I'm cool with that. I'm too lazy to get there early anymore unless it is a powder day anyway. And those seem to be fewer and farther between. They need to just put in another tunnel to the upper lots near CDOT so you could just ski to your car from Wrangler. Maybe Al will take that advice.

They can get fucked on the $69 after 2p thing though. What a rip off.

Yeah I don't really understand that mostly since len and pali close at 3:30. Should be like $20, as I bet most that'll come that late will probably go to the 6th alley for drink/food.

Been skiing super well lately though, pali terrain is skiing fast in the right not-as-rocky spots again

When it has snow, it's the best skiing on the front range, you should go.

Fuck yeah, one of my best days ever was mid week at the basin, late May after well over a foot fell overnight. The tunnel was closed that morning and I watched 2 cars slide backwards down vail pass on my way over from Avon. There couldn’t have been more than a couple hundred people skiing that day. Had deep untouched turns on the whole mountain all day. Couldn’t have picked a better place to get those conditions. Doubt I’ll ever get anything like that again with how things have gotten the past 10-15 years.
