PSA: cheap dropper posts - Brand X sale

Chain Reaction has all their Brand X Ascend dropper posts on sale. Internal routing 100/125/150 for $70, 170/200 lengths at $100.

I've had a couple of their posts. Reliable, cartridge designs. The under bar remote is serviceable, though not too fancy. AFAIK they are all Tranz X posts, which are rebadged and sold under a ton of different names, including PNW and assorted OEM labels.

Thanks for the heads up. Been looking for an excuse to dropify my old steel hardtail.

Damn, i've wanted to grab a dropper for my son's bike, but he seems to have a 27.2 seat post.

105 in stock. It’s externally actuated but is stationary so just not as aesthetically pleasing. https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/.../rp-prod159176

The CX model is 27.2, but isn’t as heavily discounted. https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/.../rp-prod159175
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

    Awesome, thanks!

I'll have to see if the externally actuated one fits, as that would be ideal as his bike doesn't have internal routing for it. I'll have to measure to see if it would fit. Really for how often he rides his bike as a mountain bike vs. a going to school bike, I could just get a quick release seat clamp, but I think a dropper would be fun for him as he's fascinated by mine.

This would work with my wife's bike too, but I suspect that she doesn't have enough post showing for even a 100mm drop post. Her bike pre-dates large scale dropper adoption on XC bikes and she's at the lower end of her size range.

Edit: Brand X actually makes a kids specific post in 27.2 that drops under less weight. As my son is just heavy enough to drop the kids one, the adult one would probably launch him into space. It's awesome their making a kids specific post though. I'll just have to decide if I'm willing to pony up as it isn't as discounted.

Thx Chup! My LEV on the fatbike failed last year, and rebuild costs are more than twice what I paid for this one from CRC.

Free shipping above $80, so I got some winter gloves on sale to nudge it over.

Interesting. ~$75 more with a lever for lifetime warranty with PNW (sale price). With such a low failure rate, it seems like a deal to get this kit for so little. Thanks for the heads up! I will pass this onto friends looking to finally get down on a dropper.

FYI, if you ordered from CRC recently during their sales and haven't seen any update on your order -- they had some kind of computer problem that resulted in the orders not going through. Do an online chat and someone will help.

Result will be that your first order has to be cancelled, and then you can re-order -- if the prices changed on anything, CRC will price match back to the first lower price. CRC also emailed me a 10% off code for re-ordering the same stuff, so it turned out even cheaper for the second order. (The $71 dropper I ordered went up to $110, but CRC is honoring the $71 price, plus another 10% off.)

There's a big thread on MTBR with people bitching about it, so it looks like it affected a bunch of orders.

Yeah I got the order confirmation email last week but no updates since then. The live chat hasn’t been available (even though it’s mid afternoon in the UK) so I emailed them.
