It's gonna be a while before those people get their cars back.

I doubt any cars are in the way. The people were all evacuated from Johnston Ridge which is several miles away from the washout. I think the cars you see in the photo I posted probably belong to the crew there to evaluate the highway damage.

The cars in the photo are on the way up the road, below the wash out, so they can drive down. It's the right side of the photo that is the way up to the trapped vehicles.

Yes, the cars are at the observatory lot. I saw one person on Instagram who is assuming they won't get it back until after the snow. That said, they will likely be able to get a temporary bridge in place sometime this summer and hopefully get them out before the snows come.

Yeah, this seems like a good training exercise for the Guard/JBLM, whether its heavy lift Chinooks or quick little training project for the Army Corps. If a road washout is all it takes to stop our troops dead in their tracks we are in trouble. I can think of numerous mcguivered ways to get ten cars over/across/around that washout in a temporary, sketchy manner.

I guess the question is how important is it to transport a handful of personal vehicles out of there? The Chinook operation would probably be more expensive than the value of the vehicles being recovered.

Yep. Here's your rental car, sir.
Anyone been skiing? It's too hot. Lows at Paradise have been like 50F for a week, ugh.

I tried to stomp around in the woods last Thursday on Blewett--I cruised by wedge mountain, no go, east of the summit also looked like a fools errand, so I ended up on snoqualmie pass at west which was actually fun and not as mushy as I thought it would be. Coverage to the parking lot too.
I ended up in the Teanaway over the weekend and it was quite warm and soft. There was still plenty of snow at higher elevations, but it is disappearing quickly--looks pretty normal for this time of year out there.

Slap a couple Ibeams down, aquaseal some railroad ties to the top and drive those cars across. We dont need a good solution here, we jsut need something that will barely work for 90 seconds. FFS, didnt the topgear guys basically do this same thing with branches and SUVs in one of their amazon specials?!

Doesn't the military have inflatable or some sort of makeshift portable bridge that they can use?
