Driest winter in North Bend since 09/10 apparently. I'd never have guessed it with how good the skiing generally was.

You can click the "rain detail" tab too. Lots of rainy days but not a single one over an inch.

As a resident of the eastside who shoveled constantly in December and January, and an enthusiastic patron of the Stuart Range, i humbly submit that the snow did materialize, just in different places!

Country club vibes to start the week at the windy hill.
8" since yesterday morning and the usual breeze to smooth it all out.
fx is saying 37F tomorrow, tonight would be a nice night for a walk if you're so inclined.

I think the West North zone has had little low elevation snow until recently, and the pack we have probably has less water content in it.
It's been a great ski year however!

That's also including all SNOTEL sites in the zone, at varying elevations. Baker ski area itself is at 104% of normal as of the 15th.

Man, what a reminder of how poor the snowfall was in the 14/15 season. That was the first season since learning to ski as a child that I didn't have a season pass... because I saw the approaching El Nino and was mostly touring anyway. Ended up skiing like 25 days at Paradise that season 'cause it was the only place to go till the passes opened. Sure hope the approaching El Nino season isn't as poor.
Helens looked like this on March 29:
Chinook Pass opened April 2 (pic April 5):
Washington Pass opened April 3 (pics April 10-12):

I might be remembering poorly, but it sure doesn't seem like any of the last 3 La Ninas were anything significant. This last year has been ok, but nothing like 98/99.
So, similarly, I hope next years El Nino isn't as bad as previous El Ninos.
(edit) to top off the weirdness, this year was part of the colder, wetter period in the PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation): https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/monitoring/pdo/Last edited by Buster Highmen; 03-22-2023 at 11:56 AM.

That's my hunch as well. The first one was def above average but each has gotten progressively weaker. If we can't have neutral fingers crossed for a weak niño.

PNW noob here. Are crowds at Alpental considerably worse on Saturday vs. a Friday even in Mid April?

I don’t care about next season at this point. Spring in the sun and winter in the shade at Mission yesterday. The cold clear night was really kind to the snow Tuesday night. Deep faceted snow on steeper north facing slopes. Pretty perfect day of skiing.

Riff that looks sick.
Norseman, you're spot on that 14/15 was an epic volcano season. I remember it begin good into May and June. And that was probably the best snow I've ever had at WA pass.
We abide.
