Ptarmigan report - it’s in and it’s out. Probably one more week until skis won’t be worth it.

Downey Creek trail is especially noteworthy. It took a us more hours than Bachelor Creek. There are 4-5 sections of complete blowdown obliteration, too large to end run. Consider this a tantalizing objective to those inclined for sufferfests.

Aiming for around June 23 to 24th weather permitting. Anyone care to point me in the right direction for the best trailhead/camping spot for a Baker mission? I think we have a guy who has gone a few times now.

I assume you will approach from the South.

The best camping is at the campgrounds on the lake. But I think the trailhead should be about melted out by your dates. There are 2-3 sites next to the parking lot. Also, on the way up the road there is a big lot (parking for snowmobiles in winter) at the final road branch that is good for camping in. Otherwise, folks just set up tents next to their cars.

If not daytripping, there are nice high camps on the mountain where you can probably find water with some searching.

Thanks, sorry for the stupid question but what road? Assuming it is not the same one you take to the resort?

Suggest looking closely at the map.

Kam mentions the usual summer south side approach which is from road NF13, via SR20 and Baker Lake rd.

North side via the Coleman Gl is from NF39 via SR542.

Couple other ways in but they're not as common.

We went in to Mt. Adams Tuesday. We helped shovel out the last snow drift that was 1 mile from Cold Springs camp.

Skied the Avy Glacier Headwall from the Summit. Snow was excellent up top, but got more runnelled as we descended.
After donning skins and traversing back to the Crescent Glacier ridge, we were able to ski to about 1 mile from camp.
    Big fun.

    Da Fuq!?

In January of last year, Lewis had enrolled her daughter in the Stevens Pass Alpine Club. According to the lawsuit, the resort was understaffed at this time and requested parents take shifts running the ski lift. Lewis agreed to do a few, receiving one day of training. For several weeks, the plaintiff was an official employee and worked five-hour shifts as a ski lift operator.

Can anyone comment on the state of the snowpack around chinook pass, naches peak, sourdough gap area?
I have a rare day off from the toddler and I’d like to spend it getting sunburned if possible

SPAC parent here. Yeah, there are a number of SPAC parents that are part-time lifties who just run Kher's chair as that is the one the club primarily uses for training. It definitely started during that season as VR was so short staffed that they weren't going to run the chair much which means no race training. Even though with Ellen things are way better now, a number of parents still tend the lift (I'm not one). I don't know this lady but it sounds like she was downloading from the top and fell off? Maybe a beginner/non-skiing parent?
A couple of squirmy little (U8) SPAC kids fell off this year going from the bottom and weren't injured. Should be a non-issue now that the new quad is going in. Though I doubt they'll let parents run the thing anymore.

Going quick. The easy lines around Chinook barrrrely went this past Sunday. Suncups and melt runnels abound. Better than not skiing though

Found some smooth West-facing corn on 6/11. I think I'm done unless I hear word that the newer snow up high smoothed things out. (There is hope!)
It's been a pretty good year for me.

    Yo maggots, check this out.

A couple local boys are getting after it in a big way this summer--Their goal is to summit all 100 of the Bulger List peaks without the use of powered transportation. They have checked off 25/100 so far (Stuart range, Rainier), and are currently up in the Glacier Peak wilderness. They are cycling between all destinations--their weekly elevation/mileage stats are mental!

Check out the project--Human Powered Hundred Peaks--I think it deserves more eyeballs, and I'm sure they would appreciate some stoke on the IG/blog posts:

^will follow along, 67 days would be crazy impressive. That's gotta be even tougher than Hardrath's 51 days last year using a car.

Rainier's south side still has very nice smooth snow too. A little bumpy in the photo but a little lower was excellent, 7-8.5k Click image for larger version.
