Who? And I spend pretty much every waking minute working so meeting up is hard.
I hope to be on mtn Fri. I expect the top will pop by Fri/Sat which oughta appease the crybabies who don't realize every season that the announced opening date is arbitrary.((. The joy I get from skiing...

Break out the rock skis....will be interesting to see how windy it gets as well. Hoping that last week's storm will be pretty receptive to this one but a lot on the upper elevations looked pretty bare still so who knows...
Trying to convince the Mrs. & Mini Me that an early season mission is the call this weekend...

So patrol.mammothmountain.com now redirects here: https://mammothmountain.westernweathergroup.com/
The new site is honestly pretty slick. But the Patrol site had a lot of features that have without warning disappeared. The one that I appreciated the most was the atlas of zones and avy paths. I've been able to go through the Wayback Machine to screengrab a lot of it. But some of the data isn't archived and certain elements, such as historical avalanche photos, are gone entirely. I really hope this stuff is archived with the Patrol, would be a real bummer if all that data got wiped.((. The joy I get from skiing...

Was out storm skiing for most of the afternoon until it blew out and everything shut down around 2:30. By then it was zero vis & my last ride up ch 6 was sketchy.
Chair one went down first,
followed shortly by Thunder bound.
Big winds and dumping snow turned the Main Lodge parking lot into a disaster at the end of the day. Watched this tricked out 4Runner nail a 3ft berm and get epically high centered.
Jeep wrangler stuck and spinning all 4 tires. Watched them try to dig out with their boards for 10 minutes before I took pity and loaned them my shovel. Get a Tacoma boys.
Nuking down right now. Just made a run for Vons. Driving down Meridian.
Old Mammoth Rd.
Vons parking lot.
Weather apps on my phone started blowing up with lightning alerts a few minutes ago. This thing is moving right over Mammoth.
Back out tomorrow.

I probably won't get up to Mammoth until early December. Hope the rest of you guys have fun packing this down."Have you ever seen a monk get wildly fucked by a bunch of teenage girls?" "No" "Then forget the monastery."

That sucks to lose all that to delete. Hopefully it’s archived somewhere and can get posted up somewhere again

After a bit of a delayed start yesterday, it turned into a super fun day. Temps stayed on the brisk side with highs around 14 deg and big wind chill on top of that. I ended up skiing until last chair, and the legs are feeling it today.
I parked at ch 2, not really expecting it to open but by 12:30 it was up and running.
Lots of fun lines to be had.
Where the snow was un wind affected it was really good.
Winds were ripping over the top of ch 1 all day.
Around 3:30 the clouds lifted off the Top and the coverage looks good the this time of year.
Looks like a few small slides, but nothing major and no big fracture lines in sight.
The night mode on the new iphone camera is really cool. this was well after dark last night.
Back out again today.

Wow, that looks sweet! We won't be able to go this weekend, but we'll be back in a week.
I did notice the change in the patrol website, thefrush. I kinda liked the immediacy of the information in the old website, right away you got temperature and wind and base and top. But the new website is really cool and there's a lot of information, I just hope that it remains free. I didn't think of the atlas, that's sad that it's gone.

A surprise late in the day opening of the Top yesterday turned a good day into a really good day. Glad I stayed til the end.
Top opened just after 2:00 pm and a short time later I was at the top of the Paranoids by myself. Looking down P2, got my line spotted.
Looking back up. Skied the ridge between
P2 & P3. Snow was a little more wind affected than down low, but still really good. Didn’t hit a thing.
Finished the day off with a hike up to the top of ch 22 and skied avi 2.
The snow was meh. The bowl (shown) was better, less slabby.
Great week overall. Looking like a busy weekend.
Cheers!

Awesome pics Eastern Sierra Skier. Some buddies and I got up there Thursday morning and skied till last bell on Sunday. I think I must've skied below your lines on both Avy 2 and Paranoids.
Thanks to my buddy's less-than-stellar bladder performance, we ended up stopping at McCoy on Thursday afternoon and much to our surprise a line was forming for the Gondola! We ended up on the ~10th one up and scored some fresh tracks up top for the rest of the day.
The next day on Viva and the edge of Avy 3 were the best runs we had off the 22 traverse (no hiking for us... only sidestepping).
Dry creek was also a blast... held great snow all the way until Sunday, even after being ravaged by the massed Jerry assault on Saturday.
Met this good boy up top on Saturday...
And finally this view welcomed us back to reality on Sunday evening. Until next time!
