Twas a rad day, but man they are getting cooked quickly... lower / mid elevations were skiing the best - summer snowpack esqe, upper elevations above 10800 were still in a transformative, isothermic state especially closer to cliff bands or exposed rocks, stick to center punching above...

Road is snow logged beyond Cobblerest like mile marker 22 ish

Hayden is getting beat, but things along the southern flank seem to be holding - Agassiz is out for continuous lines

Skied Bald Mountain NE face and managed to link snowfields between cliffs...

    Attachment 460540

Then hopped over to the saddle between Bald and Reids. Booted along the cliff band to the saddle and climbed the shoulder to the snowfield above my helmet and retraced it down to the basin between the two... pretty cool area.

Started to snow for a bit... Looked at my GPS and saw some topo lines that may yield some more skiing on the backside of Reids...

    Score.

    Slay.

Got back to the sled, went to pull to start and heard the crank snap... FUCK... you probably heard me scream at like 530 pm, no it wasnt thunder....

I tried to fix or work it over, no avail and toured the 12 miles or so from Mirror Lake back to the truck. Left my old gal down by the lake... Retrieval Sunday with a new crank lol, yay me....

Not mentioning alcohol at all makes it feel like a troll job, but i've definitely heard the same sentiment in earnest from a coworker of a certain faith that skis a certain mountain at the top of LCC. He didnt have nearly the same concern about people drinking. I dont really care about either but honestly its insane that drinking while skiing is culturally acceptable, its a wayyyy bigger danger to other people on the mountain (having done my share of both when a youth)

Cheating eh? lol I prefer to call it an open book test...

Atleast I still had 6.5k without the sled assist. I will say I am still a purist, but now the Rubys, Uintas, Logan, Sawtooths, Winds, everything across Jackson Lake.... ill wait for your phone call, who knows maybe ill pick up?

Update, after performing open heart surgery on the side on the side of mirror lake highway in the rain... she fired up first pull and rode out like a champ... then I got pinched at the trailhead because I took the document package out of the sled with me when I self extracted and forgot it on my return, they even ran my VIN to make sure it was current and it was / plus I showed them the broken part replaced and explained the situation... still issued a citation -

I was a little upset and conveyed my dissatisfaction with a 'exercising the system for no reason' quote, then tucked tail and walked away

After breaking down, skinning out 12 miles, going back days later and fixing the sled, and then going back down to finally leave with your sled - you got treated with a ticket for a sled that is actually registered? What a shitty deal!

Despite that shitty story, I still miss owning a sled and the places it took me.

If that happens to you again, you can wrap a rope around the primary clutch and give it a yank. I've broken a few recoils over the years and had to use that method. It works well, but be careful you don't get the rope stuck and don't wrap it around your hand. A lot of tool kits for the sleds have the rope with a hook in them.

ya..could of turned out better ; careful around those forest cops>they love to give tickets for anything. My camping gear had some old sparklers (from years back camping on Delaware river)...somehow talked my way out of a citation, but it was close to a huge fine. They slapped a possession ticket on me for pot(was like 15+ yrs ago) I had it tossed out by a lawyer...fkn F.S. officer stuck his hand in my pocket without even asking or buying me dinner 1st!

maaaaaann i wonder if i worked with this person once upon a time. they got a kick out of going above and beyond to waste a lot of time on people who were following the spirit of the law and made small mistakes at the expense of missing the less honest, repeat offending actors. if this was usfs i'd recommend calling the US attorney who prosecutes the cases in that district and explain your situation to them. a lot of the federal judges in rural red state west really hate this kind of stuff and if you mention a willingness to speak with the judge the prosecutor might work with you and help everyone avoid the hassle.

So this monster just flew south along the Cottonwoods, hard turn left around Draper and went immediately low along the bench back up north.
Now it’s making a second flyby. Uh oh.

ID:	461573 Provo and surroundings yesterday. Perfect conditions for riding to snowline around 8000ft right now. NW had smooth corn early afternoon, bit more variable on other aspects.
