Those winds definitely hit some terrain. Just after we talked on Instagram about the joy of finding the best snow, I outsmarted myself yesterday. Heading to GTNP isn't always the answer I reckon. Wind affect + lower end snow totals made the riding north off 25 short underwhelming compared to previous days on the pass. Still fun enough for a couple laps in the lower elevation couloirs though.

Tons of fun to be had throughout the range — we all can't have been at Targhee yesterday! ;-)
There's been so much spacial variability around the range — such a fun game to play given winds, rapidly warming temps (what a difference a few minutes of sun at this time of year makes!), dropping temps (it was 4F & 35mph winds at one point yesterday) & their effect on aspect & elevation!
Sniffed out some decent snow today:

Only in this thread you see people skiing powder in sunglasses, over and over and over.

Sooo many days this year I left home thinking it would be sunny and made the call to take my goggles w/ moderate lens, only to get socked in at the summit and find we are storm skiing. Again. And again.
I finally wised up and started bringing my low-light goggles. Same thing was happening to my entire crew. We've rarely seen the sun since Halloween.
I skin in sunglasses and if it happens to be sunny on one of these days I'll ski in 'em. When the snow slows down and spring really sets in, I'll bring the darker goggles. Guess I could bring a 2nd pair of goggle lenses, but I can't wear them on the way up and I'm covered for both scenarios + it does save a bit of weight.
*******
On that note — we've had sooo many greybird days here, and starting Wednesday it looks like we're in for another full week of storm skiing. But the sun popped today.
I was tired and didn't really want to hike. I should have rested but made the mistake of instinctually asking a friend if he wanted to ski.
Stayed cold — 11F. Wonder why no one is out there?

Sunglasses and hats.
At least wear the Smith Wildcat with the Photochromic lens. You won't tear up and you can see in all conditions...which is nice for you blind old phucks

I wanted prescription, but didn't find them available in that style glass. My regular sunglasses are prescription. I don't "need" prescription glasses, but it's helpful. It would be really helpful skiing and mtn biking.

JACKSON 2022/23 {Tetons, Snakes, Gros Ventre, Winds, Wyoming Range, etc.)
Hey UAN - I thought about texting you this but figured it would make more of an impression here…
A few days ago I saw a post on the Samsara blog. Without checking this thread I immediately thought…that’s a UAN pic! I don’t know a damn thing about photography but the fact that I recognized your image says a lot. Checked this thread and I was right.
Keep up the good work!Last edited by schwerty; 03-29-2023 at 06:45 AM.

I agree- the wildcats work well as in between sunglasses and goggle.
I saw this unusual style of dog walking while going up the King this afternoon

It's walk on tram season again. 5 laps yaesterday and today catching the same box with sammich. Racy fun. Choice carvy everywhere, on or off.
Then dinking around in the offpiste anywhere, it's a veritable smorgasbord of village lines: Cheyenne, Altas, Experts, T3/ Mushies.
Haven't heard from lindenle for days, Dark side must be good.
Wstdeep skied by...
Jackson uniquities: still ski in sunglasses, still ski in hats, still lower the bar...

oh hilarious- I think that's my buddy Luke and his dog Mable.
Hip deep trailbreaking out there in the southern end of the Bigholes. 2.5m snowpack in there. Still some cold snow on dead north, but the sun is reaching farther and farther over the ridges. We might not be on those bike trails til July.

I know what you mean. My body wanted to rest but I overrode that. You did a ton of work trail breaking!!
Thanks! Orange, but still works. He wanted to put a black jacket over the orange, and I was like "noooo!" Hah.
I haven't used photochromic in winter in years, but there used to be an issue where they didn't respond quickly in cold temps and often couldn't get dark enough. I read that Smith had something new in that domain — has that changed?
I wear shield sunglasses so they're pretty much fine if it's sunny.
Thanks for the compliment!
I definitely lower the bar (in many areas! ba-dum-bump) — and also a this is the biggest use case of a helmet for me... getting clocked when someone lowers the bar without checking first.
Hah!
Definitely warmer than yesterday hiking in the today's sun, but air temps were still cold and there was wintry untracked snow.
