I decided to take a rest day for the sore legs and leave the goods to the masses.
First people in line showed up at 5 am. Asshats.

It was a cold long wait, between -4 and OOF degrees to be exact. Found EoB ahead of me, both comfortably in first box. Seemed like 6:50-7:00 was the cutoff today.Some spectacle as the maze setter had created a close out in the lower line and then someone knocked over the whole metal gate by accident. Saw BB and Ski220 down in the maze. First box loaded around 915 after a wee delay and then came the too quiet club music all the way up. We needed Djongo there to rectify. Thanks for the tuning sesh mang, the edge refresh was super noticed. Was first out there left door (video proof below) and second down the bowl, supportive cream cheese, firmish pow, and wind buff. Hit Cheyenne bowl left of bivy woods, softer snow, untracked, no face shots but chargeable. Time to lap Sublette, no waits in six laps, unbelievable. Bluebird, sunny, warmer. Surprisingly few crowns observable in resort or backcountry (saw one high skiers right RS, and one smallish debris field in center Laramie Bowl) Second and third run in Laramie Bowl, smooth as a baby's bum with near first tracks to broken powder. Ski schoolers were sending it already. Next four runs with EoB made the day, they kid has really learned from the best. Soft supportable, consolidated boot top deep pow in the semi trees for 30+ turns. Nice! And he had decided to bring out his "new" spatulas for the first time ever on his first list served day of the year. Strong. Awesome to run into BB and friends on the noon tram. Big time memorable day.

Was -13F when I left the house at 9:30!! (Then it was warm all day while skinning.)

Next four runs with EoB made the day, they kid has really learned from the best. Soft supportable, consolidated boot top deep pow in the semi trees for 30+ turns. Nice! And he had decided to bring out his "new" spatulas for the first time ever on his first list served day of the year.

I bought those from Shane himself out of his garage back when I was living in Tahoe for a few seasons. Miss those skis sometimes!

Had a pretty good day. Didn't see other humans other than at the trailhead; skied laps of ~12" of creamy pow. Heard/felt lots of settling but no other signs of instability.

Yes you are correct (of course!)! I wrote settling bc "whumphing" looked wrong.

Yes, was definitely collapsing and taking the air out of the snowpack. One of the whumphs was so loud that it actually echoed — no sh!t thought it was a bomb from the ski area. Definitely a good time to be really confident in one's line choices, exits and partners — and to know what the slopes you're skiing look like in the summer (still shallow)!

singlecross - i kept thinking that heel piece behind the back ski was the attached toe piece of the marker duke pt binding and I truly could not comprehend what the hell you were doing lol

Stoke factor was high for Tram opening.
Bacon was cooked and games were played.
Tram opening. Was a first for me. Glad I made it.
Walked up and saw BB. Kokomo and EoB
were way ahead. 1st box of the year. Good job!

Was disappointed to find that thunder ridge was
not open. Would have been nice.
Best was running into BB and friend again at Sublette
and skiing out for tracks.

Maybe some storm riding tomorrow afternoon ?
Some refresh on top would be nice.
