Beartooth pass should be topshelf this spring too. You Mags might consider putting it on your list of things to do.
After not opening last year, I bet those dudes are gonna bust a serious move to get it spinning this year.
Love to meet you up Beartooth for a few laps this summer! I don't know though, red lodge has been a donut hole this season. Barely a 40 in base. Could be bigger up on the highway.

Nope. It was a cool rock feature above nastar back in the day. Became sun dog after the quad went in.

How did she get to sun dog in two turns from the Gondi??

So, my ski season in Jackson is done.
It’s been another epic one for sure.
    From tram opening, with bottomless
    untracked everywhere, in December to
catching a bonus tram last Friday after
a 30 minute wind hold. Terrain filled in
like I’ve never seen it before.
9 straight weeks from January 7 until
March 11. 45 days at the village, 11
days on the pass and 2 in the park. A
    lot of truly memorable moments.
Want to thank all of you mags that I
had the privilege to ski with this year.
And all the others, who I have not met,
that have posted stoke here and make
    frequenting this place so worthwhile.

closest snotel at 9300 ft about 10 miles west has 62 inches at the moment. Lots of local variance I'm sure though

all the residents out in the hoback have done a pretty dam good job unifying against this. The sublette zoning/planning meetings I've sat in its pretty dam lopsided against this and there is a strong coalition to stop this. However this man is rich as shit and he needs to have this resort to keep his kids afloat. shocked they didn't green light this tbh.

if you missed it he did buy the whole development up grey's called 'renegade' in hopes of doing a landswap for even more land in the upper hoback. I could go on and on but that's not the stoke we need until we are mad at tourists in the off season lol

    sorry django

Yar, good to see ya but too brief again to ski ya. You guys drag yeselves away from a storm cycle next year and come up and chase pow with us.

Two buds skied central yesterday, the first tommy'ed the landing out and the second one stuck the landing but bounced 30 feet to headstomp.
They were not the early risers today that they bragged of last evening...

I was so stoked to happen into/onto that "ceremony" ... timing is everything in life and that was a special moment.

Loaded up with all that stoke I went out to open a line on the dark side that I had been waiting to come in. Hit that, got out and then re-loaded the box to take a walk up Cody with thoughts doing some more elephant hunting and possibly ending up with nice double bagger of sorts. The walk up was interrupted as I watched a person tumble from above the crux on Central banging into everything hard on the way down. It was by far the worst fall that I have seen in person...a total uncontrolled tomahawk from way up. I could easily hear gear banging on rocks from the boot pack just below Pucker. I notified patrol and got moving... hustling to gain enough altitude to be able to traverse across Pucker and get up there to render aid... All the while hoping that I hadn't just watched someone die.

The short story is a young gal from SLC had just survived an unreal ass kicking with some significant damage but nothing that seemingly would change her life long term. Dr J was just minutes behind having seen it as well ... traversing low and booting up followed by Patrol 15 minutes later. We eventually got her packaged up and down to the flats for a heli pickup. Later on while picking up some of my gear/clothing ( that had gone with her to the ER ) I ran into her partner in the waiting room. (we had him stay where he was .... partway down the chute) He advised me that all her scans etc had come back negative so a great conclusion to what could have been a very ugly event. Damage yes but none of it life threatening.

So all in all a pretty full day.

Also of note: it reminds me how blessed we are to have the patrol we have (who can grab fifty pounds of gear and hustle their ass's all the way out there quickly) people like Dr. J who just happened to be in the right place at the right time (and will respond) and SAR who can get there when the shit hits the fan. Today all of that was needed and the outcome was so positive.

Mr Francis hit Iggy (on the first clear day this week I believe) one of only eight total descents I believe. Also saw what would have been base ski launch tracks on it today...fuckin gnarley stuff.

Made this little video snippet. Set expectations low if you decide to watch. I should probably stick to still imagery of others!

Sounds like a horrible fall (& thing to witness)!

In my experience with Central, I always felt like the actual crux is above the narrows. There are the rocks you can often see from afar — and then there is the chocolate chips that seem to be in that spot even in the fattest of years.

The prospect of a fall in that spot terrified me. Once you're past that and line up the lower air, you can often basically fall out of it and be OK. (Not that you'd want to, but...)

Also... having to watch that happen to your ski partner/spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend, WAIT for a long time for the scene to clear and THEN ski it — *shudder*. THAT would be hard to do.

Just another Saturday at The Big One.

Way to get after it WD, solid work and exactly what we expect from the local hard guys.
Opening a secret stash in the shade, then helping extricate a broken skier from down in the big chitty.
Pencil in a little overtime for yourself on the next paycard.

Circling back a ways, SVJ's reference to 'Tram Todd' had me laughing.

Anyone ever heard of that? Sounds like a title he'd bestow upon himself. And there's no fucking way on God's green earth that any local did.

And yes, we ALL know him. More than one mag has told him to stfu or get ready to throw down. He shuts up quickly.

Thanks for that, it was rich.

Headphones with your favorite tunes, or a set of earplugs, can be very useful in the tram line.
