    Nice to have cold temps back — and to actually FEEL cold. Hasn't been that way for a while.

    I thought with the few inches of reset the village skied really well. The bowl, experts and the upper mountain were soft.

    Skiing White Pine in the morning on my way back to Iowa from what was an unforgettable powderliscous week in the Wasatch.

    This is a bucket list resort for me. I love the Winds and the communities that line the exterior. Brought the Brahmas to rip some rolling cord.

    And hopefully a burger and beer tonight at the WRB. I think my hotel is walking distance.

    SAR flight today. Not a rescue.

    Had a sunrise window so ascended the town hill. Brrr. 0F hiking. Comfy going up & an ice cream headache by the time I hit the bottom!

    Corduroy was SO good I went back for a 2nd lap. As much as I love backcountry conditions, railing fresh corduroy is REALLY fun.

    Not bad views either (phone pic)! Should have photographed the pinkish morning light from the first lap.

    Spent some time later photographing some eagles I came upon. I've got to sift through the images but noticed something odd — looked like they have eyelids that open laterally. This frame is mid-close (or mid-open? ).

    “Why do eagles have 3 eyelids?
    The third eyelid, an inner eyelid, is called the nictitating membrane. This eyelid is transparent, and sweeps across the eye from side to side. They evolved this extra layer of protection to keep their eyes moist and clean while still being able to see.”

    A Marmot catalog many years ago had a great photo like this, from atop a summit.

    What a capture! Thanks for sharing.

    JACKSON 2022/23 {Tetons, Snakes, Gros Ventre, Winds, Wyoming Range, etc.)

    Good morning for the speed boards, though a pathetic count of only day 6 on the season. Got 32k in about 3hrs despite poor viz from mid Grand down for most of the morning. New Thunder is a game changer for sure. Noticed today that there’s no longer a tower in tower 3. Sundance was the tits as usual midday. When every other trail is too packed to open things up you can usually roll right in or wait a few seconds for a completely empty run. Hero snow to boot, felt like Bode lol

    PM Nordorked in the park out to Jenny. Finally got boots and poles to compliment the raffle skis I was graciously gifted by the GF last year. It’s way more fun than expected.

    Just got back home. good times last week. Some jackass boosted by Swix Excalibur poles at 0945 AM right in front of the Bridger Center building. I went inside for 10 minutes, they gone. I went to guest services, filled out the form, talked to security. I went skiing. Got a call at 210 PM from security while I was in the Mangy. They found my poles. I head they track people from camera to camera to the lifts. Good job. I just wanted my poles back. Who the hell goes around stealing ski poles?

    Shitty. The crowd has changed at JH over the years. Used to be the best skiers in the world were most of the mountain and good people living to love the place were the rest. I've heard tales of skis being taken from the Hostel this year also.

    Nobody tried to steal my poles at White Pine yesterday, but the ski area did steal my heart. Ski area number 70 for me, and a bucket list, since I have spent so much time in and around the Winds (for a blue collar fuck up from Iowa anyway). If time wasn't a factor, I'd spend a lot more time riding their two beer chairlift, and low keying in the parking lot with the salt of the earth inhabitants of your region.

    It doesn't look good for the uglymoney family making JH this year, which is healthy, and keeps it special. I will miss hitting up Djongo in the tramline for his warm welcoming smile and front side hot laps. Next year, somewhere in the world, we'll hopefully cross paths.

    If skiing is art, White Pine is a cord canvas. I'm so glad we crossed paths.

    I owe you an apology, Uglymoney. I coulda gotten offa my lazy ass and driven down to ski with ya.
    I'm sorry. And wish I woulda done it.

    White pine requires a true skier to appreciate it. It's skiing for the sake of a turn. Nothing fancy or even special. But it's skiing, godammit!

    And it's Pinedale...Wyoming's next big relocation town. Some day, people will be waaaay less afraid of the Winds.
    Love 'em while they're still lonely and dangerous.

    Land in Daniel is still cheep. Bondurant, not so much.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Without jinxing anything, I'll say this: we don't really have much theft around here. Ever. It's practically non existent.
    Generally poles are accidentally grabbed for any variety of dumbassery reasons.
    Security at the ski area is a laughable response from our east coast owner who is old and worries about shit that doesn't happen. Employs clowns to watch cameras when he's not.
    I've never had a ski or pole taken in over 3 decades.
    That said, the adage that 'opportunity makes the thief' comes to mind. Some people take shit because they can. Sport theft. Fuck them.
    So, I have worked part time at Snow King for ski rentals since 2013 or so. We have not once, ever, had a customer’s skis stolen. However, we have had dozens of people take the wrong skis. Usually the bring back some TVS or Hoback rentals, and we just call them, they basically always have ours. It’s actually kind of funny.
    It cracks me up when East coasters think that everyone wants to jack their clapped out rentals.
    OMG... we used to lock everything TF up on the east coast! TBH I could not have afforded to lose any gear. It took a while to unlearn that habit.
