Bummer to hear. I had a suspicion but didn’t want to speculate. Probably not to many local 16yr olds, with sleds, going that big. Fuck, not many people period going that big. Looking at the feature and bomb hole again, it’s huge. Bilateral acl is a long road….wishing him the best

    Pushing the envelope.

Blind hucks always scared me, no matter what the snowpack was. You never know how big the sharks are that lie underneath. I'm certainly guilty of sending a few, but for the most part I tried to scout landings during early season snow packs. And I only sent 45-50'ish a few times. Kia is going huge.

Damn, that sucks about Kai. Unfortunately that/those injuries are going to follow him around forever now, esp. bilat acl. .

Eh, ^that was my first reaction as well but gotta remember that he’s only 16 and likely has access to the best surgeons and PT available

It will be interesting to see what effects, if any, this will have on his style of skiing (assuming he makes a 100% recovery)

A friend of mine skied icy stunt ditch and ended up blowing both on 2 different occasions. He still sends hard as ever and made a full recovery. Kai is still destined for greatness. Look at Candide and bobby brown, hell even tanner hall all of whom made significant recoveries and continue to be the best.

Trust me, you don't want to be on one of those chairs in this kind of breeze. No fun.

Riverton discussion makes a good point today that I would have never thought about.... "high March sun angle (the sun is now as strong as it is in late September)"

Spring equinox coming up on March 20th. Will also be nice to have some more light for after work shenanigans.

In for first box and some pow tomorrow, hope to see some of you out there. Fingers crossed it stays cooler at elevation, esp with the wind, and cold temps overnight suck some moisture out.

Little breezy on this side too.
Sublette shut down almost as soon as it opened.
    Didn’t get on and glad.
Tram just shut @ 1:25 “for at least 20 minutes due
to wind”. Sitting on the bottom of the stairs.
Gforce made it on. Think he’s swinging in the breeze.
    Hope he makes his plane.
    Thunder down as well now.

Made a call to head up for a lap on the Pass, with bailout options, when I saw what I thought was a weather window: reasoanble viz and winds trending calmer. Anticipated the road might close due to conditions or a dumb move on someone's part.

Got about 2/3 to my intended destination as winds kicked up to an intense level (40+). I was able to safely (relative term) get to a place where I could ski a protected, manageable zone that was not likely to slide — and would not affect the road if it were to do so.

All signs pointed to stability — but you could tell that this is the weather that produces slabs quickly, and I wouldn't have wanted to linger longer.

Arrived at the road to discover the Pass had shut down about 10' prior, due to a semi that couldn't quite make it up from Victor to the top.

I knew starting out that even if the Pass closed I'd likely be able to drive down — or worst case to ski back to Wilson if I had to. Fortunately I was able to drive. In the line of cars waiting at the Wilson closure gate THERE WAS A SEMI WAITING TO GO UP!! *facepalm*

Grabbed a couple quick photos once we knew it was safe to do so:

    {Bluebird pow probably makes for better imagery for most, but I dig storm skiing and the visuals created.}

PS We crossed the 500" mark at 3:30pm.
