Sample size is small so far (in terms of pow days) but does it seem like parking Creekside and taking shuttle is a viable option versus going early and trying for base 2/village day lots parking spot? Got a lot of vacation days to use this month.

probably a lot different on a snow day, but I got on shuttle Creekside just before 8 Satuday morning, village by 10 after or so, loaded gondola probably before 8:30. I think once ski out to Creekside is a bit more solid it's a no brainer for the shuttle option.

New gondolas come wrapped like new cars, who would have thought? No operational update, other than people are working on it every time I’ve passed it this last week.

The really concerning thing is the last couple winters have seen above average snowfall, yet the glaciers still seem to be retreating fast. It's just too hot and dry in the summer now.

There;s a big time lag - 5+ years - between snowfall in the accumulation zone and melting in the ablation zone. The upper glacier can be getting deeper while the leading edge is retreating or the leading edge can be advancing while the upper glacier is thinning. It's all happening in slow motion.

You still need several years of above average snowfall to make a difference.

May not be the best thread to ask in, but heading to Pemberton soon for a sledding course. Staying at Pemberton Valley Lodge (good god - not cheap. Where do people stay in Pemberton when travelling solo?). What is the likelihood of my sled disappearing overnight? It's an old 2016 so not exactly a head tuner but still, people will steal anything that isn't bolted down.

I left Squamish at 6am and it was just as the trucks were getting stuck on the Brohm Lake hills...short wait and then a group of us managed to sneak through and it was not great, but also fine if you were just cruising in the group at 65, of course the impatient assholes then had to try and pass in the southbound lane, one guy in a truck 2 behind me had to swerve back into northbound lane to avoid a headon....fucking idiots

Great day on Whistler though, didn't wait in a line until after 10am, and even then wasn't really ever more than 5 minutes. deep snow, great turns.

I read a couple people on the Sea to Sky Road Conditions Facebook group say it was the worst they've ever seen it. That may be exaggeration, but you've got to figure it was pretty bad.

I read a couple people on the Sea to Sky Road Conditions Facebook group say it was the worst they've ever seen it. That may be exaggeration, but you've got to figure it was pretty bad.

It was pretty messy with compacted ice and unplowed snow since the trucks on the hills were blocking the plows from getting by, but I didn't have any problems in a Rav4. I can't believe there wasn't a commercial chain up requirement in effect, saturday morning, snowfall warning with significant accumulation, and these turkeys seem to regularly make poor choices. Every other major highway in the Province manages to have regular chain up requirements for commercial vehicles, I don't understand why powers that be are so reluctant on the sea to sky, and it always seems to cause problems in these types of storms.

They literally do one or maybe two tire checks per winter and it almost always happens on non-snow days. Seems like an ounce of prevention could go a long way on a day like yesterday when it will obviously be a shit show.

On the plus side highway was a breeze today and there was a lot of snow to go around. Starting a petition to keep at least one alpine lift as hike only for the rest of the season.

Lesser Flute opened after a storm cycle. Snow depth approx 150cms below ridgeline but 60cms at ridgeline showing how that low density snow got moved around by wind.

Considering the amount of shit Vail got last season all across the continent for not getting lifts open, I'd say that idea's got about a snowball's chance in hell.
