2022/23 Canadian Rockies and related locations thread..

Well, we finally had our first reasonably major snowfall in Calgary and Rockies. As of last weekend, driving Hwy 1 through Banff to 93 on Friday, and returning Sunday, zero snow on any of the high peaks save glaciers. Sunshine and Lake Louise mountain cams showing white stuff as of Saturday.

Summer here was late arriving and very late leaving. Golf clubs are packed away, skis are getting sharpened and waxed.

Let’s do this for another year!

    All progress reports welcome!

Note calling it related locations, because historically, the thread has included Revy, Kicking Horse, Panorama, Fairmont and Kimberly comments. More a “regional” thread.

    Let the stoke begin!

Pfft... I've got like 30 cm in my back yard and a solid 8ft high slope if anyone wants to get some early turns in.

Just remembered we will be at Kicking Horse over week 2 in Feb for the Canadian Ski Patrol improvement clinic if any mags are going to that, or will be on the hill. Pretty excited to get told I have made no improvement at all.

Who did you have as an instructor? I'll get him or her to be really mean.

Liz and I were up on Bow Summit on Saturday. It was nice to be on skis again. Thin base, but the warm, wind affected snow did a reasonable job of keeping us above the ground. Slow, careful skiing, but it was better than expected, and I've skied Bow with worse snow. It has been a warm fall, but it looks like things are coming along.

60 cm base at SV? There's literally grass sticking out everywhere...

    I'm not see grass: https://www.skibanff.com/conditions

I still bet they have limited terrain open and it will resemble roller derby on a WROD.

I mean even if we got 7 feet nobody would build us a full course but it is amusing and not lost on me!

Pretty decent out at SSV today, good to get the legs working again. Sounds like Wawa's opening tomorrow so good to see some more terrain starting to open up.
