I seem to remember some discussion in last year's thread about meadows expanding gated terrain or opening boundaries in some fashion. Anybody got an update on that?

You new to Mt Hood huh?

In the old days MHM would wait until they had a 36-42" base then open Blue

Last I'd heard (last year) was that ski patrol had proposed it to the USFS and needed approval, doesn't look like any changes yet:

Anyone go to MHM meadows today? If so, how is the coverage and think they will have star and mhx open soon? Hoping to take a day off later this week to go up.

No rocks visible in the gut down face. (Those rocks usually stick up for a while, early season. Perhaps it's just 20"+ of new on top, but it looks pretty deep mid-mountain.)

I happened to catch lifties/patrol skiing down face (on the live-cams) earlier today and I didn't notice a bunch of hopping around to avoid rocks. It's always hard to really see what's going on, but given all I see, I expect I could ski most anywhere in the MHX bowls without a lot of worrying. (Especially if you know where to be careful.)

I'd be glad to hear a first-hand account, but I've skied preview weekends when it's way thinner than it is now. (And discovered snow sharks to show for it. Which is just fine. I realize the risks and am glad to accept them.)

WAG here: With the storm tomorrow, they'll shrug off opening MHX till later in the week. They certainly could, IMO, but won't.
I don't have any inside information, but that's what I think they'll do. (And I'd love to storm ski MHX tomorrow. Seriously - it would be one of the best opening days ever.)

    From NOAA re: Mt Bachelor
Tonight - Snow. Widespread blowing snow, mainly after 1am. Temperature falling to near 20 by 9pm, then rising to around 30 during the remainder of the night. Breezy, with a southwest wind 20 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.
Wednesday - Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Widespread blowing snow, mainly before 4pm. High near 31. Windy, with a southwest wind 30 to 32 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 10 to 16 inches possible.
Wednesday Night - Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Areas of blowing snow before 1am. Low around 18. West wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

That 14-22" at near freezing in next 24hrs will be a good base builder.

I can report 100% snowfall in Bend at 8pm. Won't be making it up there until Saturday. Everyone else fortunate to get some lift served turns, enjoy!

Some of the issues opening a lift are the the ramps. Just because a run has barely enough snow on it isn't always a major factor. Then there's the employee issue

In the tree's behind Blue, with protection from wind and sun there probably is. On the main lower runs, it looks the be close to 1.5-'2'

    We're gonna shoot for Friday
