Looks like the liquid falling mid-mountain at Bachelor is in the form of snow. Mother Nature testing her snow guns.

A little equinox gift, ephemeral as it may be.
Reading the MtB blog they’ve replaced (and tested!) the electric motors on NWX and OBX. Hopefully changed out the hydraulic lines at top of NWX as well.
They say New Sky construction is moving right along but they haven’t finished the top terminal pad. Will it be ready to ride when they open in 64 days?
Also saw today that John McLeod, (former GM of MtB) is now CEO of EarthCruiser in Bend. The founder is also an Aussie.
Wonder if John bought a season pass…

Yup saw that early this AM. Very nice change of scenery, and likely to knock down Pete’s Lake and Lookout fires

I'm new to the central OR grass-and-rocks-skiing scene: how much snow is needed before you can ski the cone with only a mild risk of an ACL explosion (not as worried about bases/edges of rock skis)? What are the other early season spots? Hayden? Any other patches that just need a bit of frosting to "kinda work?"

It's not so much the ACL, it's the base destruction. If you want to ruin your rock skis on the sharpest lava rocks on Earth, you can do that with about a foot of Cascade cement. Your ACL should be okay on the Cone. Not many boulders to hit that would cause serious knee repair surgery damage. Just your average, garden variety 2-3 weeks to heal type of carnage.
I've skied the Cone with about 18 inches of high density snow on it. Comes down to those two factors; depth and density of the snow.
You will find powder starved gen Zer's and immature Gen-Xers on the Cone risking limb and board/ski bases on 6 inches to get that Tik Tok video that goes viral because they end up battered and bloodied."We don't beat the reaper by living longer, we beat the reaper by living well and living fully." - Randy Pausch
