Lost a ski today. First time i've accomplished that. I blame the tiny brakes on pivots and horrible execution. On last run at least. Guess i'll be hiking up there when the snow melts. LMK if you run across an orange ski on God's when the snow starts melting

Leave your contact info with lost and found. Pretty good chance you'll get a call in the next few weeks.

Thanks fellas. I did assess the creek somewhat looking for evidence of a track going in, but it could be in there. I'll do the lost and found thing.

This is true. I lost a ski in a steep chute at Mammoth ages ago and told ski patrol right away where I was when it flipped off. Figured I wouldn't see it till spring I was surprised to see it at their HQ within 3 hrs. One of them did a sweep and found it right away based on my description of the landscape.

Then....buy some powder straps and use them from here on out!

I don’t use brakes for my back country skis – exclusively use leashes. Seems like I should just put some on my powder skis as well!

I bet you could retrace it - from the vid it seemed right down the gut of that slot...follow that fall line closely to where it tips out or runs into some other slope
snow was powder with a crusty bed surface below
unless that gully terminated in a bush or tree well along its gut, i'm speculating it found it's way close to the bottom -- god's does kinda tighten up towards the bottom

Nice yard sale! The only time I ever had to probe was after eating shit after sending a cliff in S&R. Luckily struck it after 15 minutes. Was not looking forward to skiing out in one ski.

What ski is it? I sometimes hike up there. Last time I was there in the summer there was a totally mangled bentchet leaning on a tree. How was the monoski out?

I just bought powder straps. Am I lame or prudent? I dunno, I was in deep yesterday (I would have hated to have a ski off to know just how deep it was) where losing a ski would have been terrible, so thanks for the push and I hope you find your ski.

The suspect is an Orange blizzard rustler 11 with grey pivot binding. Skiing out on one ski was not ideal but not too bad.

Dude at stevens lost one, rented a metal detector and went back in with it. Carried the metal detector to the backside on the lifts.

Another alternative is a recco detector. Patrol at Whitewater let me borrow theirs a few years back. I unearthed my beloved 2013 Bibby Pro in about 10 minutes. Good chunk of luck involved, but the recco did register when I got close

is Recco just a metal detector? or did you have a tag on your ski?
i thought it was a radio frequency tag detector...

    From RECCO wiki:

The signal from the detector can also weakly be reflected from other electronic devices, such as cameras and cell phones, as well as metallic objects. However, even if this effect has allowed the rescue of several buried people who were not carrying a reflector, the search range of those others devices is much shorter and not reliable enough.

So might be useful in this application

sounds like a fatality out in Black Crater by Sisters yesterday. 2 skiers, one didn't make it. I know a couple folks who go out there. Serious vibes to all involved.
