    Nostalgic tangent...

as this restaurant is no longer there...

I never had the actual prime rib dinner 'cause as a 20yo ski bum I couldn't afford it... but after a weekend of tourists eating prime rib, Monday night at The Chart House in Mammoth was all you can eat ribs for $12. They were incredible! But that could also be because we lived on pasta and pbj.

The food at Timberline is very good. The menu rotates, so prime rib isn't always there.

    Nostalgic moment
Used to be Alta and Diamond Lils in SLC but time marches on.
Also used to be a Chart House in Aspen, not far from Ajax base when I lived there.

Best skiing and best prime rib?

According to Google Maps the Six Peak Grille is 591' from the Resort Chair at Palisades Tahoe. They do not have Prime Rib on the menu, but they have Rib Eye four different ways including a Tomahawk Chop and Bison. But they also have a Wagyu Strip Loin that I believe is a roast and should be awesome.

I recently worked a party also a hundred or so yards from a chairlift that had Snake River Farms American Wagyu Tomahawks that were as good as any prime rib I've ever had. It is supposed to become the type of place that serves it.

I thought the prime rib at pioneer in ketchum was pretty tasty this summer. I do sort of consider the restaurant a bit more of a tourist trap with decent food than a high falootin super beef joint. But i liked it and would happily go back for more.

I think he’s suggesting that there’s more to the world than Tahoe and that you should buy a plane ticket to someplace else

Howzabout Teton village for turns and The Gun Barrel steakhouse for some prime rib?
Now it's not within 5 miles, more like 10-12, but it's western Wyoming so nothing is within 5 miles. even the next door neighbors.

Back in 96-97 I worked night housekeeping at the village. We'd get very buzzed and go clean admin., ski school, etc. for about 5 hours.
When finished we'd meet at the office and the cooks from steakride Steve's outfit would unload the extra Primes and Salmon slabs that didn't go out that evening.
What a scene of drunk, stoned skids eating slabs before heading over to the Mangy moose to score or watch some fun band.
    Good times.

Ore House prime rib, sells out nightly, pretty good, IMO. Stones throw down the hill from the boat. The issue here is, it's the boat; you have to really want that flat pow.

IDK if they still do it anymore... But the Biltmore casino in Crystal Bay, NV had cheap Prime Rib specials for under $10 for years. Last time i was there in 2015ish it was still like $9.99. It is NOT a nice casino, or a very nice place to stay, but it is cheap and the prime rib was always pretty darn good and at $9.99 pretty ideal for those ballin on a budget.

These 2 definitely qualify for best skiing if you like the gnar but not sure about best prime rib these days but were once upon a time very good restaurants.

Holy shit - a number of years back we hit up The Gun Barrel for steak, higher than kites. My buddy sat staring at the fire in the grill for about 20 minutes. We ate a shitload of steak and sides that night.

    figured you'd remember

If you have a smoker, smoke a whole prime Rib ( often decent buyvat Costco) covered in butter.
    Catch the drippings

The meat is unreal and the butter/beef fat combo can be saved to cook with (amazng), or spread anything.
Have a whole Tupperware bowl in fridge right now

Could likely be used for Sharpie lube in a pinch
