Rec Sports Fads of the New Millenium.

    OK so now it's Pickleball..

    Stand Up Paddleboards...

    Dodgeball...

What are some other big time sports and recreation fads of the past 20-30 years that had decent momentum before flaming out?

The proliferation of what seem like frat house yard beer drinking games out into everywhere America is fascinating to me.

    Beer pong
    Cornhole
    Smashball
    The frisbee trashcan thing

    Disk golf.

Mtn biking in the mainstream. Not sure it will fade away as much as some new other activities though with all the investment in the infrastructure/trails.

^^^ Would be excellent if e-biking would fade away. I'm sure it will. After all, according to the majority of e-bikers it is just as much work as riding a real bike. Surely the masses won't continue riding them when they realize how much work they really are.

Pickleball and SUPing still going strong in Socal.

How about adventure style races like Spartan Race, Tough Mudder etc.

I’m curious if one-wheels will have staying power. They are a lot of fun, but so were hover-boards…fairly small demographic and usability environments.

Local ER doc said the proliferation of one wheelers is keeping him very busy.

That is exactly what I was thinking of. Turns out it's this is what I'm seeing. Same general annoying feeling about it.

I still play in tournaments. I think it officially died in the 90s though. Some of the 80s heyday clubs are still around, and the CEO of LA Fitness must be a player since they keep building courts.

The top pro from about 2000 on had an insane record and completely dominated for almost 20 years- he went like 5 years without anyone beating him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kane_Waselenchuk

Seattle people love thier fad games- that trampoline bouncy ball thing (spikeball) is big, and there is some throw wooden blocks at other wooden blocks one.

    Spikeball
    Cup stacking
    Slacklining

......and what's that dumb looking, needlessly herky jerky, inefficient, dangerous, and just plain stupid sport that self interested jack asses in $1500 jackets do on nice gentle beginner slopes??? Oh yeah telemark skiing.
