Kirkwood was decidedly mediocre today in the snow dept, and Lower Cirque was closed for a comp. Still fun to be had on Norma's and Wall-to-Waterfall.

Saw on another forum a rumor of a gondola cabin possibly falling off the cable. Really hope that's not true.

Pics/Videos I have seen on insta show what appear to be a cabin that detached in the station. Not a free fall situation. No first hand knowledge or anything.

Shasta > Redding > Susanville > Reno was the call

she said it only really got bad from Reno to Truckee - 80 was closed but they let her through - two cute women with three kids somehow smiled their way through - a proper truck and a set of chains didn’t hurt - she said the Truckee River canyon was epic

On the gondola note, I think it's hilarious that if you have skis over 105mm and/or twin tips that you have to take them inside the cabin because they didn't buy holders that could accommodate them. For ~$70 million... in 2023.

Touring solo yesterday and a skin track collapsed into a tree well. It was probably 18 inches from the clear settlement cone around the tree. Fortunately I fell the other way and not in.

Yesterday was one of those beautiful days where every lap got better. By 2pm face shots skiing bottomless on the right aspects. Hard to pull myself away despite deteriorating conditions!

Same for snowboards, too. Was at PTOV on Friday and rode the B2B. As an ME I realize design oversights like that can happen, but jeez.....

I rode it on Friday with a group and we discussed this same topic. Going to be fun squeezing 8 people in there when everyone has to bring their skis and boards in…..it just boggles the mind they designed them like that, my 99 K2 Mindbenders don’t even fit in there and they aren’t wide by todays standards…

Homewood pulled the plug early so it looks like maybe a drive to Diamond Peak.

TAHOE 22/23 -THE YEAR OF THE (t)RAM

Not sure when they’ll open but please have some laps for me at PTOV. Got turned around at our unplowed neighborhood roads in TD after spending a good hour shoveling the driveway (first time this season). This is where I wish my car had a bit more clearance, so close to making it out! Now we wait (and shovel).

It's dumping to a kind of amazing degree here at the Carson base of 50. I might just ski directly from my house.

That B2B is an epic fail on multiple levels. Dumping noobs at the top of KT is also phucked.

I rode the thing twice to meet my friend at Alpine and it stopped twice. Once for at least 5+ minutes.

    Yup.

All the gondolas in Europe are like this. I bet the gondola design is off the shelf, and the idiots in charge of project management at PT dgaf.

    FIFY. ;-)

Honestly if it was reliable taking into account how windy it is here every time it snows (or even when it doesn't) I still like the concept, but that's just not the reality. Coming from Truckee I'd much prefer to park at OV and hop over to Alpine but if I feel like I have to even check the app to see if it's running then I don't bother.

My bibby’s fit in the holder for the mammoth and sugarbowl gondolas.

Had a friend at SB yesterday that intentionally slow rolled leaving the area after they shut down the ski hill. They basically waited for the storm and traffic to calm and drove home (foothills) with no traffic and good visibility on (closed) I-80 and donner pass rd.

So when they say, "closed" ....it's more of a guideline?

Heavenly never tried to open and I was a already in the parking lot. Fortunately, my Chipoodle Nanners are Castified so I hiked from stagecoach and took a couple laps. Legit thigh deep blower. It would have been so damn good to ride a chairlift a few times.

I have no idea and don’t have more details. Being a long time kirkwood skier, when I hear about pending road closure, my reaction is typically to get out unless I want to spend the night. I think neufox posted upthread about driving home on 80 after it was “closed” in blizzard conditions. My friend waited for the blizzard to calm and then drove.

yeah I don’t know how my girlfriend talked her way past NDOT yesterday - I think some of it was simply timing - several others never got there or took 10-12 hours to get to Truckee
