Kingsbury was open? Last I saw it was closed two hours ago. I don't think there's a way east out of the basin right now.

Whew, what a day. Drive from Tahoe Donner to Palisades Resort Chair was surprisingly smooth this morning and turns out it was the right call for the day with not much else opening. Pretty wet in the beginning (had to change out my ski pants after a few laps; turns out proper goretex does make the difference). Snow got progressively lighter so last chair best chair type of day. They did close an hour early for avvy reasons supposedly.

Drive back on 89 wasn’t too bad since not too many people were out skiing in the first place. Was absolutely puking snow around 4 pm in a Truckee: we were in the grocery store for 20-30 min and came back to 3plus inches on the car, crazy. North woods Blvd closed so had to take the detour on Alder Creek road which was somewhat adventurous. Had to dig out the last 50 yards of our local street to make it home. I’d say there’s about 3ft of fresh here since this morning (6400 ft, Tahoe Donner). Couch feels good now. Click image for larger version.

In the twenty or so years I have lived in Gardnerville, I have never seen this much snow in this short amount of time. I have never had thigh deep snow on my lawn.

IME people show up late on NY day. OTOH there's a lot of pent up demand. And late lift openings.

Kingsbury is closed near the Chart House.
50 is open eastbound only. WB 50 still closed.
Still puking at the lake. A bit less than before, but that means "only" 2-3" an hour instead of 5"+.
Snotel shows 43" in the last 24 hours and the snow didn't really start until 2AM. We may break a 24 hour snowfall record.

    Tomorrow's forecast: 100% chance of clusterf--k.

Holy shit just finished my 3rd and hardest snowblow of the day by 11:30pm. Didn’t have power for quite awhile, until a plow comes by I’m stuck at home.

For sure. Backcountry meadow skipping for me today - it's going to be an absolute shit show at the resorts. Nice thing about this storm is it came in right-side-up.

Yeah it was dumping yesterday at the house. I’d finish clearing the short driveway and the first cleared zone would already have enough snow to warrant clearing.

I’ll never complain about it snowing, but holiday weekend storms are always shitshows. Some asshole abandoned their car in the middle of 89 last night, blocking the plow and all traffic south of Rubicon.

On a related note, if the usual pullouts haven’t been cleared, shovel out a spot or go ski somewhere else.

Another solid 4 hours of snow clearing this morning... including the roof of the shed, cargo trailer, and travel trailer. Still no electricity, and cell service went down overnight too.

Went into Reno for lunch, cell coverage, and electricity, and then saw Rose announcing it's opening soon. Oh well.

Did you go on ahead to the Grubb hut and let her fend for herself? Do we need to call SAR?

Deep out there, thigh deep skinner and I’m 6’ 2” , fun out there but I think tomorrow will be better once it settles a bit and the cold temps should dry it out more.

Hopefully it settled today and 5-10"overnight (edit-oops that's tomorrow night) skis like 14". Dog still has stay home though which may be a theme. Yeah it was a bit deep and exposed areas were wind affected.
