Today at Kirkwood was some of the best pre-Thanksgiving, 4 trails open, wind-compacted, forgot-how-to-turn, sapling dodging fun I've had this side of a mountain bike.

It should snow in early Nov every year, as decreed by state and federal law.

Really great November conditions, hit Kirkwood today, what a treat to be able to ski off 6 today with really nice snow, headed back tomorrow. 4 great backcountry days before today, Tahoe is firing!

Even saw some extremely rare wild penis tracks today

I have a Sierra Pass +fast lane. I’m thinking better with trees gone. Will add Ikon in Spring. Haven’t been there in years.

KW on Saturday was surprisingly good and a ton of fun. MildBill, Squirrel and I got 2nd chair up 6, skated past the group on the first chair and bombed into Sentinel. There were a handful of tracks in there from patrol, but the 3 of us ripped it top to bottom, skiing in a row, hooting the whole way down in boot-top hero pow.

Tons of fun tree wiggling, some deep pow pockets, a great way to start the season. Stoke level is high.

Props to KW for opening 6 on day one.

TAHOE 22/23 -THE YEAR OF THE (t)RAM

any of you beaters got a line on a cheep or phree ticket to Northstar for me for Saturday?

I’ll be in town for the state high school ski racing meeting. Planning to tour Friday on Donner Summit, ski Northstar Saturday (my girlfriend has a ticket from another coach), and maybe spin chairs or tour on Sunday.

We’re going to go to the film fest Friday night and Dead Winter Carpenters on Saturday in Reno (can maybe score a couple more freebies to that).

I am going to say it. This is the worst ski map in the history of ski maps. In yet another lame attempt at promoting the image of one huge unified resort, this is now the map that appears within the Palisades Tahoe mobile app. It makes it seem as if there is absolutely nothing between the resorts, not a mile of unskiable terrain. And the scaling....Alpine looks ginormous compared to Palisades. The lack of detail and clarity on the "backside" areas is laughable...then again maybe a good thing if the unknowing never find Sherwood or Lakeview. Fortunately for people that choose to look at the website, the separate maps are still available.

The marketing department's attempts to justify Andy's Albatross...meh.

No resort complex in Yurp would have as confusing a map as this one. Who would understand that Troy's White Wolf is in the middle?

Yikes, that map is pretty bad. There definitely needs to be a yellow cross-hatched area in the middle there, which is pretty standard for unskiable zones on resort maps.

I never knew Alpine has its own Granite Chief. Putting it on the map is going to drive more confusion.

I like how paulsons gully is the most prominent run on the map. What could possibly go wrong with that lol

Looks ok to me, for a ski area map that has to fit on a phone, but if you guys need me to show you around I'd be happy to.

Careful parking at trailheads, there are bad guys out there: https://www.facebook.com/PlacerSheri...dJF9PAqpNuJLil
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office North Lake Tahoe Station is investigating a string of vehicle burglaries in the Tahoe/Truckee area that occurred over the weekend. As of this post, we have received reports from eight victims whose vehicles were parked at various trailheads and businesses.

It says Wilderness beneath it but I had the same reaction as you. Why even label it?
