Another endorsement for this plan. Great hiking in the Wengen--Murren--Gimmelwald area. Or from Lauterbrunnen or Grindlewald take the train to Kleine Scheidegg and then the train to the Jungfraujoch. (We hiked across the glacier to the Monch hutte. I have no idea if we were hiking over snow covered crevasses, and there was a rather large serac looming overhead, so maybe not a good idea in shorts and a t shirt.)

Ok, think we're heading towards Lauterbrunnen. Sunday looks like good weather so we can hike around there for a day and see what the weather does. If it sucks ass I'll head up to Lucerne.
They have a fall special on the Swiss travel pass, 4 days for 199c so I will probably pick that up and see where I end up.
Thanks for the help mags! My dream of climbing limestone by the sea will have to wait until next time.Last edited by sfotex; 10-04-2022 at 08:54 PM.

One adventure to consider in Murren is the Via Ferrata between Murren and Gimmelwald. 2.2 km hike essentially hanging off the cliff. I haven't done it but a lady that worked for me had and was ecstatic about it. Quite the little journey.

I still say Fall hiking in the Lötschental is the thing to do!
And it's only one kandersteg Tunnel from Interlaken.
Maybe one of the most beautiful hikes in Switzerland.

It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

What to do in Switzerland this weekend.
Do you ride a bike - mountain or road?
Verbier bike park is in sensational shape at the moment and an hour from Montreux - I’ll be going with my son this weekend
Weather is fantastic at the moment. Climbing should be perfect.
This is from yesterday just riding above Montreux to Les Pleiades
And if you want to get up higher there are some fabulous eBike trails I can point you to - this is from the Col de Mille above Bruson looking towards Chamonix
There is also a great hike from Montreux or Caux up to Rochers de Naye with great views from the top
And of course Zermatt is spectacular in the autumn
And the Lavaux vineyards are great if you fancy a tipple

Val d’anniviers has some pleasant scenery and alpage and hikes (only been in winter). Was far quieter a valley than some of the others mentioned.

Geneva is in one of the most gorgeous locations on Earth for a city, has beautiful old architecture and an interesting history. With that said, it is one of the most soulless cities you will find in Europe. It is a transient town with international bureaucrats coming and going to various governmental and non-profit organizations (United Nations, World Trade Organization, Red Cross, and more). Lausanne seems more like the true capital of the French speaking part of Switzerland.
