Wow, I go camping for a weekend and a thread that hits close to personal experience blows up!
I've gotten to a point in my photography where I'm far more hesitant to give photos away for "credit". In most circumstances, I really don't feel like it helps bring future $ my way.
I will say this, at least they asked.

Earlier this month I was searching the interwebs for a commonly stolen fall photo of a snow frosted Killington Peak with peak fall foliage on the flanks of the mountain. Backstory: I'm in a Vermont Photographers Facebook group that includes the guy who took the photo. Every year he posts that "it must be fall because I'm see my photo all over social media again". I ran a quick Google search on "Killington Foliage" and sure enough there the photo was in the top 5 photo results.
However, as I scrolled down through the photo results, I soon saw a photo that was VERY familiar. It was one of my photos. Sure it was an older one but I was kind of shocked. The link below the photo was for northstarinn.com. I opened the link which brought me to the the Inn's photo gallery where I found they were using not one, but 5 of my photos (all with my watermark cut off)! The North Star Inn is actually in Killington. All of the photos they stole were from the Burke area and actually had Burke Mtn in one of them .
I went to their Facebook page and found several more (this time with the watermark included).

I sent them an email requesting they take down the images within 30 day or I would pursue copyright infringement and back payment. They have taken the photos out of their gallery but are still using one as a banner photo of the steeple in St Johnsbury Center: https://www.northstarinn.com/contact/
And they haven't taken the Facebook posts down yet.

Not as blatant as what happened to NEK, but some ultra-right wing MAGA scam company took one of my photos that had an American flag in it, added some shitty IG filter and pasted it all over their social pages. My message to them about taking it down was not very polite.

Years ago I was contacted by the big image company that my site had one of their images on it so I was told to send them $600 and remove the image or they would litigate the use of the image without the normal fee being paid.
My point is you should do the same. Send me a fee and take the image down.
