ya i forgot about Evelyn, besides the easy 2wd access its also closer to town,

just don't park like an idiot or the farmer might plow you in so I have heard

I asked the Bri guy why 9/9a is so far from the rest of the area and he said " take the whole range, its like a dog marking territory "

We'll have an AWD with snow tires. Didn't realize there was two trail heads the Hankin and Evelyn so clearly I need to do a bit more research.

OK sounds like your vehical will get you in, from town its 15min to the evelyn and another 1/2 hr to Hankin so I'm gona say the trail heads are 1/2 hr apart here is the link
    https://bbss.ca/hankinevelyn/

i used to go in there alot with the guy who developed the Hankin/ Evelyn, a free ski area/ no lifts/ no staff was a good story so there was a different journalist every week and I've heard the spiel many times from the back seat of a Tacoma

As of today the access road to Hankin (Uptrack FSR)was fine says my buddy. He added that the Kitsegucla Road was icy. The Kitsegucla road is the publicity maintained road off of hwy 16 that provides access to the Uptrack Forest Service Road on which the Hankin Backcountry Ski Area is located. So basically with your AWD you are good to go. My advice would be to go to Hankin and don’t bother with Evelyn glades. The Evelyn glades are a long slog for questionable reward, especially at low tide which we are unfortunately stuck in.

^ It's a bit f*cked here too! Do you know if there is a MIN report about it on the Avalanche Canada.

Oh and it's Ms. Spark btw.

Hey Ms. Spark! Shames got a good dump today. Things are getting better as far as ski quality. I'm afraid I won't be able to ski with you while your here. Haven't been in the Shames BC for a while but folks have rave reviews lately re cats. Do let me know when you get here though perhaps we can hook up for a bevie at least.

If you happen to be heading to Hankin on a Sunday, I would be happy to show you around. It's pretty self explanatory though (lots of signage ect.) so going on your own does not put you at any significant disadvantage. Saturday is a hill day for myself so if you are inclined to check out Hudson Bay Mountain you could join my daughter and I for a lap if you are so inclined.

And I did a MIN report for the pics I posted above if that is what you mean.

Had a great first trip visiting friends in Terrace considering the weather we got. Mixed ski touring days at Hankin and Shames with day trips to Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park (why have I never heard of this before!!) and Gingolx, and Prince Rupert. Hankin backcountry ski area was definitely a cool spot and for Shames we might have not had any fresh but the views were incredible.

Angle Parking thanks for the invite but we hit Hankin last Wednesday and I thought of you whenever I saw angle parking around Terrace haha.

garyfromterrace, so awesome to finally meet you and learn about Shame's history, exchange ski spots and adventures, talk gear, share mag stories and drink wine. Next time, we ski

Heading up to the Dome, Shames. The rain runnels were big from the rain the previous day.

Me and the Mrs. spent our anniversary up at the little lake there a couple years ago.

I really like it. If you keep going up the ridge you run into the microwave sled zone.

hehe. Great meeting ya Spark! Yup, next time we ski or bike kiddo! Thanks for coming up and reaching out. Nice photo heading up the dome.
Too bad you missed HBM. The minimal amount of snow they get it is much drier than Shames.

Shames no pic condition report. Spent sat - monday up there in the camper and it was very nice indeed.

Good as it gets lately with about 60cms new and another 40cms coming before Thursday (re-opening day). 80cms forecast Thurs to Sunday coming up. All of this between -1 and -4C. Of course this is because I'm heading south for a couple of weeks. Thank you god. Enjoy. This may be a good time to book flights or road trip this way.

Spent Saturday and Sunday at Troll Ski Resort. My daughter was participating in the Festival of the North hosted by the Lightning Creek Ski Club. Huge respect and thx to LHutz Esq who is my daughters coach and everyone at the Smithers Ski Club who give their time and energy to help young people have fun and realize their potential.

And Troll... what a great hill. Such a cool vibe. The 40 + cm of fresh snow did not hurt. The Smithers Ski Club contingent had a blast.

The T-Bars are awesome. The lodge is super cool. Great tree skiing and they are pretty much doubling the terrain in the next couple years. Much respect to a fantastic old school hill. Troll does not try to be anything other than waht it is, a super cool family friendly place.
