Northern BC Stoke 2022/2023
On the cusp of the 10th anniversary of the OG thread, I figured I would take the liberty of starting an all new and improved Northern BC Stoke thread for the upcoming season. I hope that's OK with everyone. I'll start us off with some Telkwa Pass action from Saturday.
Let's get after it this year people!!!Last edited by Angle Parking; 11-01-2022 at 05:05 AM.

Awesome! Sept turns aren't easy usually round here mate, nice work AP and Spiderdog. Just so you know, I've written a song about Spider:
"Spiderdog, Spiderdog, does whatever a Spiderdog does..."
That's as far as I've gotten so far, but I'm sure it'll close nicely!“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

The first pic shows the overhead from my transition spot. Definitely a serac winking at you from the top of the couloir feature.
The upper arrow is where I transitioned. It was an early AM solo mission so the snow was rock hard and the beginning of a glide crack just shy of the upper extent of the snow provided me with my best for a non heinous transition. The lower arrow points to the top of the couloir where I figure the winking Serac was located.
So basically the line was not under imminent threat from a serac failure but other spots on that ridge have massive, ominous seracs. In fact my buddy made a summit attempt on Redemption Peak and witnessed a serac failure one ridge south.
Check out my buddy @mattreid13 on instagram. He just posted some great shots from the Redemption Peak ridge looking south onto the main body of Fubar glacier.

Yea those hanging glaciers look ominous but that pinner is sweet. You think with a winter pack you could get all the way up to ridgetop on that line? The Howson range is so dope looking! Way cooler then the costal mountains around Squamish/Whistler IMO!

I say that you could definitely get to the top of that line in the winter or spring. Massive, treacherous hang fire would have to be dealt with but I think you could do it for sure if you had the skills and a massive set of balls. The Howsons remain largely unskied and very seldom explored. There's Burnie Glacier Hut to the South. I know a handful of people who have ventured in there but basically it remains uncharted territory. That's the thing about this part of Central and Northern BC, there are literally thousands of unskied lines everywhere. It's pretty much a blank slate.

Well done xxx-er. I’m happy to hear you are back on the skin track.
Any of the Terrace folks care to chime in? I’m hearing word of epic conditions at Shames.

Yeah, Shames is amazing. As usual. Yawn...
Unfortunately I'm taking others word for it though. Maisie not quite ready to tour yet (recovering from knee surg II,), and I'm concentrating on getting all my wood done. Plus working... Lame, I know but...soon! Maybe Fri.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”
