I believe the GG is largely symbolic ?
If you go down the whole meech lake rabbit hole in 82 when the purpose of which was to become ENTIRELY Independant from England that was not the problem
the problem was getting 10 provinces and Quebec to agree
"" I suppose the real question is why? There are some benefits I suppose- the visits bring out the tourists. Having a head of state outside the country makes us less American. There is maybe a benefit to having a escape hatch from constitutional crises etc. ""
a royal hangover ? Look at how many commonwealth countries there were at Britains peak back in the day, they ruled a huge chunk of the world back when ruling huge chunks of the world was a thing
it all takes time Every prime minister since 1927 had tired to patriate a Constitution and it took till 1982 thats 55yrs did

Never forget
The 1975 Australian constitutional crisis, also known simply as the Dismissal, culminated on 11 November 1975 with the dismissal from office of the Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam of the Australian Labor Party (ALP), by Governor-General Sir John Kerr, who then commissioned the Leader of the Opposition, Malcolm Fraser of the Liberal Party, as Prime Minister. It has been described as the greatest political and constitutional crisis in Australian history.Know of a pair of Fischer Ranger 107Ti 189s (new or used) for sale? PM me.

So what would actually be cool is if William, Charles and Harry all raised opposing armies and fought it out GoT style for the title.
Although now would also be a good time for us colonials to invade and regain control of the motherland.

In fairness - it's not like they shouldn't have seen this coming.
She was 96.
Back in the year of our lord 1994 I believe, the Queen graced the little mill town of PG and opened the UNBC campus. I was lucky enough to be in attendance and later was friends/co-workers with the then mayor who spent time taking her around to the various venues. We both thought the same thing - she truly had a presence. She was gracious and engaging. He was was amazed how she would go out of her way to make those she spoke with feel comfortable.
