REI jacket
So I’m looking for a new jacket and am thinking about a REI first chair. It’s gore tex, it’s comparatively affordable and it looks decent too. anyone have any feedback on these things?

REI branded gear is solid - 1 year return policy for members, so it's pretty risk free. Haven't used this jacket but worth trying it if it's got all the features and fit you want.

It looks like they copied the older Flylow Quantum and/or Burton GTX (both of which they carried so no surprise there). If it fits well, I'm sure it's as good as any of the other made in china jackets. Probably even made in the same factory.
The only thing that jumps out at me is the zipper might might fail. But at least you don't have to spend Arcteryx money to find out.

I bought an MEC/Burton goretex jacket a few years ago, it was around 250$ CDN (MEC is kind of a Canadian version of REI). Seemed like a good deal. It fit great, but it is definitely lacking in durability. Have replaced zippers and patched it up with copious duct tape and shoegoe. Many seams came undone. I don't think she'll last much longer TBH. I'm convinced I would be better off spending arcteryx/patagonia money for something a little more durable next time around.

Stop right there. On TRG there is only one acceptable jacket brand.

I have yet to find the adult male that rei clothing fits well. Maybe they’ve gotten better, but they usually have 90% of the ingredients of a top tier brand and then you put it on and it’s like wearing a trash bag (or a very tight one if you size down)

I have a GoreTex REI shell that's held up well. I go for the Large/Tall over the XL and that fits way better than the regular length jackets for my body type. YMMV of course.
If you don't go FRS, the REI return policy is so good that it's a no-risk proposition to try it out.
