    WTB Tuning Vise and Iron

Been using a friend’s house for waxing since I don’t have a garage but it ended up with me not waxing at all last year due to added hassle, so wondering if anyone has some spare vises and/or an iron laying around before I buy something new. Don’t need anything fancy but would be cool if the vises could be rigged to work for nordic skis as well. Thanks!

Mag, I've got quite a bit of this stuff in duplicate. Some I could set you up with a good deal on. A bit of xc stuff maybe as well. Lemme rifle thru some boxes in the next day or two and I'll get back at ya.

If you or anyone else has an extra tuning vise (after Wes is taken care of) I'd be interested. I've got an iron and usually wax ghetto style, across two patio chairs, but my new place has a back room with a big work space, so a more proper tune set up would be cool.

If you want to go cheap for a vice wrap some pieces of 4x4 in bike inner tube. That and a iron from Goodwill will cover the budget part of things. If you are really feeling sporty you can find a nail at the hardware store that is the same diameter as the bar of your Nordic boot and then make an attachment that can clip into your ski and clamp to a table.

No doubt Djongo has some much more quality options than what I've suggested.

I think I have both an iron and a vice. Lemme check and get back. I think a toko iron and some ski man vices.

If DJ or justcuz can't hook you up, I'm 99% sure I have duplicates as well. Heading over to our ski house today and I'll confirm.

I would be interested in whatever vise (vice? ) Wes doesn't want, but I'll let him get dibs.

That Toko looks like it could easily be modified to be any width you want with some metal rod. If you search Tech Talk, you'll find a bunch of examples of people doing this (mostly to Swix vises, but same concept). Essentially, wack out the two metal rods and glue in longer ones. Remove the screw and replace it with threaded rod or a large bolt. I did it to my Swix vise and it worked great... went from 90mm max to 140mm max.

If you're just tuning touring skis, there's a pretty clever vise design that involves clamping the tech binding pins directly into a scrap piece of 2x4. If you search skimo ski vise on youtube, you should be able to find the video with directions on how to make one. I prefer it to the adjustable, clamp-on swix/toko vises like the above. Just much more stable and confidence inspiring.

Django has some good stuff. I’ll post up some pics of mine this weekend but won’t be as nice as what he has.

Now that the Django deal looks to be complete here’s what I’ve got. Didn’t want to hijack.

Ski man vices. Good working condition but used. The pad is missing when you lay the ski on edge to sharpen it. I always just threw a piece of rubber in there.

The iron is a toko. Super nice iron and good if you happen to Xc ski as well because it two wattage setting (600 and 1200). Accurate temps as well.

No idea on price. Maybe $75 shipped for both??

Not sure what vise djongo sold, but I am still interested in something. Not interested in a waxing iron, I have an old beater for that.

Edit: just saw I missed a PM from Djongo, returning PM now.

Danno let me know if it doesn’t work with Django. Will split the iron and vices.

Good question. Narrow. Probably about 100. That said I almost always clamp to bindings anyway.
