    Fkn remakes

At the end, if it doesn’t turn out that Chevy had been disguised as John Hamm the whole time, this movie has utterly failed

I heard today about the upcoming Toxic Avenger remake. I don’t know how you mess with perfection like that.

Could be a good movie. But why call it Fletch?

    It’s insulting

Exactly!!! The worst are the Disney live action remakes of beloved animated classics. Only ones I've watched were Beauty & the Beast and 101 Dalmatians. Both were garbage. Haven't bothered with any more.

They're not running out of ideas, they just know how to make money. In any given year, the top grossing movies are almost universally non-original material (i.e. remakes and sequels). Audiences go with what they know, and Hollywood follows the money.

You want more original movies? Stop going to see remakes and sequels. Tell your friends.

There are so many studios making original content that didn't exist ten years ago through amazon, netflix, etc. i think toast has the right idea, why would they take a risk when people continually show up for X-MEN reboot 15. Fucking lame though.

Y'all are aware that Fletch is a character from a long-running and celebrated series of novels, right?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletch_(novel)

Kevin Smith had long been rumored to be making a Fletch film based closer on the source material than either of the Chevy flix.
He was pushing to have Jason Lee star as Fletch, too.
Here's a coupla stories about Smith's aborted Fletch film.

    https://www.filmbuffonline.com/FBOLN...n-development/

    https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/20...reboot-failed/

While I know zip/nada/nothing about this new John Hamm Fletch, good chances are that it's based on one of the books and is going to be vastly different from the Chevy outings.

I would be willing to bet that the producer's "angle," in regards to this reboot, is that they aren't remaking the Chevy films, but rather re-visiting the source material.
And I am sure they are probably also hoping to spin a franchise out of it, too (there are 11 Fletch novels).

But, on the whole, I am against remakes.

I cringe every time The Rock talks about a Big Trouble In Little China remake.
And for years there was a rumor of a remake of The Wild Bunch, but that seems to have disappeared (Thank God, cuz The Wild Bunch is one of the greatest western films--hell greatest films--ever.

    Holy shit. I feel ignorant.
    I know. It’s me.

11 novels? Damn. Sounds like I got some reading to do.

I feel better about the remake. It’s more like Dune now.
Chevy was awesome. But it’s not his franchise.
Can’t wait to see it now.

    P.S.

I am largely against franchises, too.

(although I am one of those idiots Toast alluded to above who keeps going to see sequels and remakes/reboots...)

Jon Hamm is a pretty funny dude and I am not sure if Fletch rises to the status of No Remakes Allowed. It's not Ghostbusters, who the fuck gave that a green light?

Blister broke the news on a Ferris Bueller spinoff recently. They might need to digitally recreate 17 year old Sloane to get me interested though.

The original The Strangers wasn’t that good.
And neither was the unnecessary 10-years later sequel The Strangers: Prey At Night.
Yet, somehow, Hollywood is now producing a reboot and projected trilogy.
    Why?
(Well, obviously $$$), but why not spend that money actually financing some original content?
