    Summer skinning

Does anyone have some tips or tricks to improve summer skinning on frozen sun cups and slushy top layer?

Regular ski crampons don't do much as they dont prevent sliding backwards.

Skeats seem interesting. Sure they are not efficient but neither is sliding back or bootpacking on low angle slopes.

Frozen sun cups and slushy top layer are different problems and occur at different times.

Frozen sun cups: Run you bindings in flat mode so you get more crampon bite, make sure you put your foot on the high (ridges) part of the cup, take a nap for an hour or so until it softens up . . .

Slushy top layer: Choose a less steep line of ascent, then to keep from having the top layer slide downhill on you drag your ski heavily with each step to establish an edge (sometimes a little "stomp" helps).

Maybe just go for a run. Or a swim?
