Heh. Unknown caller. No way. Select ppl in the Contacts list.

Mostly robots or AIs anyway. (and those are the ones in my contacts)

For my mother, stepfather, partner, daughter or anytime I'm making plans that need to be coordinated quickly. Leave a message otherwise.

But. But. Your car warranty may have expired!

I answer local calls during biz hours. But I don’t say hi. I just listen to see if there’s a human being calling.

I’m in sales. I feel like I need to answer, especially when the spoofer gets close to the numbers I’m familiar with. Hanging up on the bots wastes less of my day than a dozen other time sucks.

Only for known contacts. I have my work VoIP phone forwarded to voicemail.

Now people just call out of the blue on Teams, which is worse.

All contacts get a specific ring. If I hear any other ringy-dingy I no pick up.

Only for contacts or if I'm expecting a call from a non-contact.

Ditto. Otherwise I let it ring so if does turn out to be someone I have reason to talk to they have a chance to leave a message. I only hang up on calls identified as spam. I can't think of anyone on my contact list that if they called me I wouldn't answer. And I don't answer the phone when I'm driving. I'm old fashioned.

iPhone: “Silence Unknown Callers” under Phone settings.
Contact list rings you. Others go straight to VM and if you want you can get a banner notification that so and so number was silenced.
    Best option of this phone.

    No.

And whatever you do, text me, email me, call again later, drive over but do not fucking leave a fucking voicemail.

I think today's etiquette is to text and ask if it's pk to call. Or better yet, text and ask me to call you.

There is this thing called visual voicemail now that turns your voicemail into a text.

Calling is fine, will pickup if I can. The upcoming "Mark as Unread" function on iMessage will be great but for now I often don't remember to reply. But I don't do voicemail, I hate voicemail - my voicemail greeting even says "do not leave me a voicemail."

There is no etiquette. Some people like voicemails. Some don't. Some people like to be called, some want to be texted. Some people like me would rather have no contact whatsoever with the rest of the human race by any method, at times. But if you expect the rest of the world to know what your preference is, or if you assume your preference is what the rest of the world considers to be etiquette--you're going to spend a lot of time being unnecessarily angry.

Same here... and my I-don't-know-you ringtone is a particularly quiet one (though I can hear it reasonably well if the ringer volume is all the way up, in case I'm waiting for a plumber to call me back or something). Apple settings does allow you to set non-contacts not to do a ringtone at all.
