divegirl is a badass
My wife and maggette divegirl is currently competing on her SUP in the Seventy48 race https://seventy48.com/
If you don't know what that is it is human powered craft racing 70 miles from Tacoma, WA to Port Townsend, WA in 48 hours or less.
They started at 7pm last night and most have paddled through the night without stopping. Divegirl is Team Flow State and is currently approaching the 50 mile mark. 50 mile on a SUP paddling through the night without stopping and unsupported and 20 more to go. Her goal is to finish by 4 pm today before the wind is supposed to shift to a strong headwind this afternoon.
Wish her luck and you can follow the race at https://seventy48-2022.maprogress.com/#
BTW, also badass is team USDB which is a group of kids from the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind who built their own tandem canoe out of plywood and are paddling it in the race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz1UIBdwWSc

Your wife is indeed a Badass as well as that team from UT. Best O luck.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Stopped by the finish line to check this morning, looks like she got to the finish just after midnight. The wind was ripping in the evening and in exactly the wrong direction.
Saw a rowing pair come in last night at 10pm.
And a pic of another sup racer today around noon on the final 1000 feet or so.

Wow! That's amazing. Really impressive stuff.
There's a good Dirtbag Diaries episode about a bunch of high school kids in Colorado who built their own boat to race in this race a few years ago:

I was with a guy yesterday who had an Ironman tatoo. Someone else pointed it out and he opened up about it. I was clueless. He told me what it was and I was aghast. Then he told me what had become of it, like people doing 50 iron mans in 50 states in 50 days. I seriously asked him if he though mental illness was a legitimate explanation for the shit that these people are permanently doing to their bodies, despite in the name of fitness.
He quickly agreed.
Same as this shit. There is a very deep mental illness component that should not be rewarded or encouraged, and I've read Divegirl's declining postz for it feels like almost 2 decades.
It's fucked up. And I will call it out as such. It's a mental illness that drives this OCD shit. Sure, if you want to do it, 'merica, but you are a fucking idiot, and I'm very far from a lazy person. Type 3 fun yourself and see what that really does to you from an objective perspective.
Disgusting. Fuck that shit.Is it radix panax notoginseng? - splat
