There's really nice areas in the 2+ hour stretch that covers south LA to San Diego. Likewise, I just spent time this past winter in Hailey / Ketchum / Sun Valley and absolutely loved it. Hence me saying you're both being dumb. Both have pros and cons but overall are nice places to live. No need to shit on one place / state to prop up another.

There’s literally thousands of miles of rivers and streams and hundreds of thousands of acres of private land that ranchers own and allow the public to hunt and fish on throughout the west. In Montana some rich California asshole bought some land that the previous land owners allowed the public to access the NF through. Long story short, California asshole murdered his new neighbor trying to use that trail.

Ha. I was only there for 4 nights in early December. My friend and co-worker moved to Hailey last year. Really enjoyed the area. Makes me want to get a place out there and be one of those hated Californians. Regardless I'll be back soon so I'll give a proper heads up next time. Also, those top to bottom laps are a real leg burner!

In Eastern Oregon, maybe 1:20 past Boise (and 30 minutes off of 84), I've stayed at Bully Creek CG next to Bully Creek Reservoir. Wasn't anything super special, but a quiet nice place to spend the night, cheap, and had electric hookups if you have a camper. Stayed there on Buster's recommendation on our way from CO to the Oregon Coast, and liked it enough to stay there again on our way home. It was pretty hot, but our camper had A/C so the electric hookup saved us.
