This morning's paper:
"Portland police shot and killed a man Wednesday night after multiple residents along the 100 block of Southeast 126th Avenue called 911 to report a neighbor firing gunshots in his driveway, according to multiple residents."

Portland police were first called to the block at 8:19 p.m. on a report of a person firing a gun, according to Portland Officer David Baer, a police spokesman. He confirmed the police shooting resulted in a man’s death at the scene.

Both officers from East Precinct and the bureau’s Focused Intervention Team, formed at the start of the year to target gun violence, responded to the scene.

An officer from the Focused Intervention Team fatally shot the man, police said.

At least 29 police were at the scene two hours later, with investigators still en route. A police mobile command center also was set up on the street.

Wednesday night’s encounter marked the third police shooting in four days, which is unprecedented in the city of Portland at a time of increased overall gun violence and homicides in the city. It was the second fatal Portland police shooting since Sunday, both occurring in Southeast Portland. And it’s the second shooting this year involving a member of the Focused Intervention Team.

“The level of violence officers have been responding to is unprecedented,” said Assistant Chief Jami Resch, who responded to the scene.
