The first album or CD you bought
Yutes have no idea since they only know streaming.
But man. Buying an album or cd with your own money.
An investment in music that repeated for hours days weeks and months.
Not even sure why I bought it. I think it was a mistake. But I grew to love it and still do.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Double album, and great start to finish. I still give it a spin on the turntable a couple times a year.

I don't remember the first one I bought but when I was a kid my parents bought a new stereo for the house and my mom bought Abbey Road and Sweet Baby James for us, both of which were pretty much just out. They've held up. Mom was pretty cool.

I went to buy Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show "On the Cover of the Rolling Stone," but they didn't have so I got this one because I had a friend with a young hippy mom who played Dead and I thought the album cover was cool looking- I was like 10.

It was at least a year or two after it was released because I had heard a few of the songs on a cassette tape, but didn't have any way to get to a record store, or even know where one was, nor have the money to buy anything if I did. After a summer of mowing lawns, and my family moving out of the burbs into town, my new best friend and I rode the bus to a big record chain to buy Are We Not Men?, and Never Mind the Bollocks. We hadn't actually heard the Sex Pistols, but were convinced that it would be de rigueur for a couple of "white suburban punk" wannabes.
Upon arrival, I was informed that they didn't have any Sex Pistols records, but they did have some Elvis Costello - the guy who replaced them when they canceled their SNL appearance. "He got banned! They told him not to play a song critical of the entertainment industry and he did it anyway!" You had me at banned.

I’m not sure I remember. I probably had 20 dubbed cassettes before I got one new from the store. Queen’s Greatest Hits maybe?

I'm not certain, but the one that comes to mind for me is The Clash (their first album). I remember I bought it at State Discount in East Lansing, Michigan. Most of their discount records were $4.99. This was probably around 1983 or so. I remember my sister already had a few. I remember the Violent Femmes and Repo Man were some of her early purchases.

Before they went radio metal. OTTN and High and Dry. After that, meh.
I don't remember the first record I bought, but I'm going to bet it was a Kiss record.
I remember my first CD because had just got my first CD player and I went out and bought Pearl Jam - Ten.

I had access to my older sisters collection and I may have instigated the purchase of a vinyl version of Huey Lewis' Sports, but before that I believe the first one I bought was the CD version of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_on_a_Beach heading into my emo pegged pants Jr High years.
