A lot of that is just Title IX in action. Women's lax balances a bunch of Football players at a relatively low cost.

Watching the womens semifinal now. What seemed like a fun underdog story/upset is turning into a soul wrenching collapse by NW

Go big red. Rutgers is a team full of transfers. They aren't even a team.

Go Big Red. My kid had earned a spot on the team as 2nd string goalie but he switched to rugby before suiting up for a game.

Princeton had a lot of chances to make that a game, but couldn't.
At least they didn't get completely steamrolled.

Princeton is good. They're probably the second-best team in the country and they play in the best league. Maryland's really good. Princeton definitely gave them a game but Maryland's just too much. And the goalie was ridiculous.

I was surprised how easily Cornell handled Rutgers.

ESPN is a disgrace. Showing interviews from pit row of the Monaco grand prix and then cutting to the women’s National championship 13 mins into the game with a 4-2 scoreline. Wouldn’t have happened in the guys final.

Big rain delay in Monaco must have messed up the whole day. F1 is a big pull for ESPN, and the fact that they let SKY run it is a positive.

Both games were kinda meh... Saw way better during the regular season, not to mention Georgetown v Delaware.

I will say it's nice to see a high level of commentary during the weather delay. Always good to get coaching/strategy thoughts from Lars.

Yeah, I thought Cornell was in the shit house after the first half. They made it a game in the 4th & put some fear into MD…showed a lot of heart.
Congrats MD, you were champs from beginning to end of season!

Cornell went down swinging, I'll say that. They'll be back, and soon. Future's bright for them.

Terps were clearly a better team but they were so hyped, and when that adrenaline runs out... That second-to-last timeout Cornell took won the game for Maryland, what a mistake by Cornell to take that then, they had Maryland on the ropes and let them get their breath. Oh well, I wanted Maryland and they pulled it out, I'm good with it.

Yeah, I am in agreement about that TO, Maryland was gassed, making a long string of mistakes, keep the pressure on.
Cornell kept shooting to shooter's right on the net and putting it right in the Lefty goalie's stick for pretty easy saves too. Made his job easy.

The girls game has really taken a huge jump over the last few years skill-wise which has greatly reduced the amount of whistles. It's still a tough go when the kids are little because of safety, but once the girls are in high school, its a lot more free flowing and play is rarely interrupted. Charlotte North has been hugely influential on the game in recent years (although I think she plays with an illegal stick.) My daughter's HS team played in front of 2,000 people for the league title last week. Its a fun sport and only getting better.

The transfers portal and the extra year of covid eligibility have definitely changed the landscape of college lacrosse (both men's and women's). It will work through in a few years, but tons of 5/6th year graduate students on the rosters. 2/3's of Maryland's points this year came from kids who would have graduated already in a normal year.

I definitely root for them, I lived there for a shitlong time and all, but I always like an underdog and can give credit where it's due, and Cornell sure gave them a run.

I agree on the time out. Disagree on bounce shots. Goalie was all over those too. Face offs and goalkeeping won the game for MD. That says a lot for a Cornell team that didn't have a covid season (and the rest of the ivy league for that matter). I wasn't expecting the game to be as close as it was. Pleasant surprise.

And I still don't understand the limits of defensive checks in the girls game, or most of the other rules for that matter.

A funny thing indeed. My kid just passed on a few DI offers (mostly PL/Big East programs) to play at a NESCAC next year. The additional covid eligibility and explosion of transfer activity is changing the way HS kids (particularly those west of PA) view the DI proposition. It will be interesting to see how it plays out over the next 5-10 years.

It's a bummer the DIII final was a dud, because the games leading up to it were quite good. It will be interesting to see if Tufts can step it up with RIT. And I'm not really sure why the NCAA chose to put Salisbury up in the Northern bracket, which was significantly harder than the South.
