Local good times at Higgins Beach, Maine ?
My kid is heading to Higgins Beach for a few days and wanted to drop some ideas for her and the crew. Soon to be graduated college females from a ultra lib/way too PC NE school need to lighten up and let loose.
What says the local collective as a can't miss ? Something that soccer mom's and geezers in walking shoes would avoid like the plague.

It’s a bit early in the year for old orchard beach to be hopping. Old Port In Portland has a high density of bars, but no idea what the scene is since Covid. Legal marijuana shops are plentiful like many places now. Ocean is pretty cold for learning to surf, but Higgins is a popular local spot. Ditto on ocean being too cold to rent kayaks. Guess I don’t have much. Will see if anything comes to mind

She went to school in my home town. In high school we went on the campus there a couple of times looking for liberal drug use and sexual experimentation but didn't find any.

I would encourage them to buy a bottle or three at Maine and Loire and drink some at the shop in the afternoon. If they learned anything in school they will be able to get directions towards more fun.
Or send them with hallucinogens as a graduation present.

Your college daughter and friends are asking dear old dad where to get loose? Or are you offering advice without her asking where to get loose?
And define ‘loose’.

I would think a gaggle of Wellesley women should have connections with a few family compounds in Maine, no?
Oh, and, this place is slipping … Pics of college girls?

From there, just go to old port in Portland, or Thompson's point if they have any fun events going on.

When? There’s a plethora of tasting room options in town, hell there’s even a seltzer joint now called Apres’. Restaurants are the game around here these days. Sometimes Blackpoint surf shop has little events, they showed Jaws in the parking lost last year and it was awesome. Hopping a ferry to Peaks Island for a food/drink excursion is always good, you can BYOB on the boat. Just wait until the lines are cast to pop ‘‘em open.
x2 on Thompson’s Point, check the State Theater calendar for shows.

Screw Maine. A few miles down the road they can live free or die in Hampton Beach, NH. Natives were sort of restless last week.
WMUR-TV headline:
Nearly 30 arrests made as crowds fill Hampton Beach over hot weekend

If they’re set on Maine it’s Portland. Keep in mind Vacationland boasts the oldest population in the nation!Damn, we're in a tight spot!

But who goes to the beach in Maine in May? The cape or the islands would be more traditional (and warmer) choices

Well if Dad wants them to shake of the Seven Sisters sort of zeitgeist Hampton Beach it seemed like the nearest thing to Padre Island that Northern New England has to offer.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

To me, the main thing would be to take advantage of the proximity of Portland the many great options for food and drink. The beach is pretty likely to be a bust, although they could luck out and get some nice weather.
Things like driving along the coast or taking a ferry out to an island would be a kinda weird for a group of girls and it's a little early to try to spend much time on the water. I'm sure it will be a nice pad and chill where they're staying, and they could probably use some r&r time.
