I like the 70s though I'm at a loss as to why. It was a horrible time in my life. Both my brothers died. It marked the beginning of a long illness that eventually took my father's life in 1986. There was a war, oil embargo, inflation, Watergate etc. but I learned to ski in the 70s, got a horse, had good friends, discovered a lot of great music and generally had all I needed re: food, housing, education, family support ect.

The 70s def. hold a lot of nostalgia for me probably because it was a time when I came of age as they say.
When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something." Rep. John Lewis

Drinking age in WI was 17 back then, so 4 of the 5 of us were legal. No laws about open containers back then either. Set up the tent on Friday afternoon, smoked up and drank a few beers, then headed to the nearest town (Baraboo WI) to “cruise the drag”. Main Street was crowded with teenagers just like us, everybody had hot cars, just like the movie American Graffiti. After about 15 or 20 laps up and down the street we pulled up next to a 69 or 70 El Camino with “Wild Fire” spray painted on the doors. 3 girls our age were in the bench seat, so we stayed next to them and timed it so we hit each red light. A good conversation opener was the cars, El Camino was based on the Chevelle. Next was the “Wild Fire” on the doors, that was a huge song that summer by Michael Martin Murphy. They were from a small town near Wausau, and were camping just like us. With no internet or Tinder app, that was the way teenage kids met. Cruising the drag. Eventually I ended up in the bed of the ElCamino making out with one of the girls.

That set the tone for the rest of the summer. What a time to be alive.

This is so similar to what happened to me. Summer of 75, loaded up my buddies El Camino and drove around Wisconsin for a week or 10 days. Met up with 3 girls from Beaver Dam. Can’t remember where we were camping, but four of us ended up in the girls tent and one couple spent the night in the cab of the truck. That horn kept going off all night long, but none of us cared. Good times!

You need to post yourself in the 80s thread then!

Well, the production was in the late 70s. Here’s a question, is 1980 the last year of the 70s or the first year of the 80s?

The seventies ended November 4, 1980. I came home from school and my mom was in the living room, ironing my dad's shirts in front of the tv, and crying.

    Yeah

Culturally, I'd say it started with Alex P Keaton. There's a straight line from there to Bud Fox and Gordon Gekko.

Some yes, some no. Mahre brothers were pretty cool and definitely mainstream... My more hardcore friends still argue that The Clash was mainstream garbage. Lots of excellent 70s bands got more mainstream in the 80s and still held their ride or die fans..

But the economic policies , reaganomics is responsible for the brutal economic inequality and end of the middle class, union busting where we are today for sure..

So I just googled it. The 80s came in with a bang.

    1980
    - Mount St. Helens erupts
    - the dingo ate Chamberlain's baby
    - Iran Iraq War
    - John Lennon killed

    1981
    - first five aids cases
    - Reagan and Brady shot
    - Pope shot
    - beginning of Iran-Contra
    - Walter Cronkite retires

Fuck, no wonder my mom was crying.

I still think 1980 was the end of the 70s, not the beginning of the 80s.

I understand how politically and culturally it is tempting to include 1980 with the decade of the 1970s, but chronologically, I believe it belongs as the first year of the 1980s -
Otherwise, we are on the (slippery) slope of claiming the 20th century ended Jan. 1, 2001...

You can have it however you need it, but I believe the 1970s ended on December 31, 1979.

I am enjoying the history -
    Thanks for the memories...

it's down my list, but for music from the '70s, I will offer Dan Fogelgerg.

Fuck off CS. Music is all about what appeals to each of us. Fogleberg created some good stuff and I saw him warm up for another act and the guy actually rocked.
