That 70’s Thread
I count three 90’s appreciation threads on the front page. Enough. We all know the best years to come of age were the 70’s.
1) chicks all wore halter tops and bell bottom jeans.
2) 1975 rode a train to Chicago and saw Blue Oyster Cult at the Aragon Ballroom.
3) 1976 Lynyrd Skynyrd in Madison right after Free Bird came out. FUCK YEAH.
The 70’s were hands down the best decade to be a teenager.

70's Pink Floyd - simply outstanding.
I didn't discover it until the 90's, though.

I was a few years too young to see the original Skynyrd live. Would have loved that.

Started that decade living in NY and taking the train into the city to see some great bands. Mott the Hoople, Zeppelin, Lou Reed etc. Then 1976 I had a falling out with dear old dad and he shipped me west. Midwest to live with Mom and finish my last year of HS.
Living in Indian-no-place Indiana a buddy of mines sister worked for the local concert promoter and we got a lot of free tickets.
Saw Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Convention center. People kept trying to get on stage for some reason. Road Crew took great delight in beating the fuck out of them and tossing them back in the crowd. Lot of whisky at that show, very little weed.
I had a 69 red/white Ford Torino that looked like a muscle car. What a POS but I thought it was cool.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

I thought Confederate flags were kinda cool. Clueless, as there were only like 5 black people in my entire suburban Minnesota high school. There were maybe 15 by the time I graduated
But ya, the 70s rock music is excellent. 80s was pretty good too. That said, I don't think I could be happy with JUST 70s and/or 80s or 90s or 00s music. I need some of everything..Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

I just missed it, but I won't argue that 70s childhoods looked freaking rad. I caught the tail end of it with my banana seated hand-me-down bike, shorty shorts and tall striped socks, questionable (possibly irresponsible) parenting, and what not.
Also gritty 70s NYC must've been something else. Freaking dark time in cinematic history too. I actually watch a ton of 70s films, but they're typically depressing as shit or pretty bonkers.
Can't beat the old Blaxploitation and Kung Fu movies of the era tho! Paging Dookey to the white courtesy phone.

I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd on Oct. 15, 1977 at the Hollywood Sportatorium . The second to last show before the plane cras.
We arrived at 9:00am for a 7:30 show. General Admission. Plenty of Shrooms (that we picked). Snuck into the venue before doors opened at around 3:00pm and partied while the band set up and did sound check. Hid between rows of seats. Great times.
Some concerts I saw in the 1970s (many for free. All for under $70)

That 70’s Thread
I enlisted in 1975 when Gerald Ford was POTUS. In 1976 I bought a 66 Mustang for $200 from a sailor with orders overseas. Had a 289 V8 and a 3-speed manual. Glass packs and air shocks. Sold it for $200 four months later when I got orders overseas. No one thought those cars would ever be worth much.

Music - Rock & Roll - trans-formative times and made a global voice that has carried for generations.
Traveling long distances quickly became economically feasible for the masses.
Media better equipped to put you where the news was happening as it happened.
60's/70's made cognoscenti of how little the world was and could possibly become... at least to the people who could think in 3D
First world changed exponentially in the middle of a paradigm shift - so many more aware of what "free" could and should mean.
We started tearing and scratching at gender, racial and cultural divides.
Culture grew in your home that didn't go in the closet when your kkk/aryan friends came over if you were enlightened.
Hey, drop a few tabs of this, smoke somma that and listen to this... get back to me SunshineI am not in your hurry

My biggest memory of the 70’s was being robbed of a summer of cartoon watching while off of school by the endless watergate hearings on all day. It was also the years where I figured out gorillas fighting were actually guerillas. Spent a few years thinking planet of the apes was playing out in real life.
Drive ins, I remember playing in the playground in front of the screen before the shows started.

On the other hand... Disco.
I actually had this silly record when I was kid. Just like the Star Wars disco song, there was a brief WTF moment during the 70s that was Disco. So glad that was as short lived as the Dubstep trend of the 2010s.

Also this one always annoyed me to no end for some reason:

8th grade 1978, disco dancing was a PE class at my junior highs school. I took it. Then, like a month later we were chanting "DISCO SUCKS! DISCO SUCKS! DISCO SUCKS! during the disco dance contest they had during halftime at the Minnesota Kicks game. I kinda felt sorry for the people out there trying to dance but we were laughing too hard..
