For sure. Also “The Prisoner” was big for me.

“Jaws” probably had the biggest direct impact on me, living on the Cape and swimming in the ocean every day all summer - until the day I saw that movie.

Dammit you’re right. Princess Leia and Olivia Newton John were my earliest crushes. Not that the two have anything to do with each other. Does Olivia Newton John belong in the 70s or the 80s thread?

    That 70’s Thread

    Early summer 1975

4 buddies & I loaded a tent and sleeping bags into his 69 Chevelle SS396 and headed to Devils Lake State Park in WI for a weekend of drinking, smoking weed, and chasing girls. Drinking age in WI was 17 back then, so 4 of the 5 of us were legal. No laws about open containers back then either. Set up the tent on Friday afternoon, smoked up and drank a few beers, then headed to the nearest town (Baraboo WI) to “cruise the drag”. Main Street was crowded with teenagers just like us, everybody had hot cars, just like the movie American Graffiti. After about 15 or 20 laps up and down the street we pulled up next to a 69 or 70 El Camino with “Wild Fire” spray painted on the doors. 3 girls our age were in the bench seat, so we stayed next to them and timed it so we hit each red light. A good conversation opener was the cars, El Camino was based on the Chevelle. Next was the “Wild Fire” on the doors, that was a huge song that summer by Michael Martin Murphy. They were from a small town near Wausau, and were camping just like us. With no internet or Tinder app, that was the way teenage kids met. Cruising the drag. Eventually I ended up in the bed of the ElCamino making out with one of the girls.

That set the tone for the rest of the summer. What a time to be alive.

I turned six in July of 75. Spent the summer making hay and helping my dad around the farm. And swimming.

Sometime around that time we were spending summers with family and friends on mom's side of the family i Oklahoma. Dad stayed in MN and worked his ass off all summer every year. Anyway, we were staying at my mom's friends and I was hanging out with the girl next door a lot. I was like 12, she was a year younger than me. Her dad was a nomad truck driver dude who was never there, mostly lived with her grandma. Anyway, one morning I went over there as usual to meet up with her. Her dad was there, no shit, wife beater shirt, bug hairy dude.. and he decided to take his 38 special out and clean it in the living room while I was waiting on Paula to come out of her room ready to go hang out.. LOL, that shit really happened.
