Lol! I used to work with several of the folks involved in making this happen. Where’s the sprinkles though? Kind of cool.

That picture doesn’t make sense to me.
I mean, here we are on earth, about 2/3 out from the center of the spiral galaxy we call the Milky Way looking back at the center of the galaxy. Everything in the galaxy is rotating around the center in the same direction in the same geometric plane that we are in. Why wouldn’t the accretion disk of the black hole in the center of the galaxy also be rotating in the same direction and plane?
And yet in that picture, it looks like we are almost at 90 degrees to the accretion disk with a circular black spot in the middle. Shouldn’t the accretion disk be blocking our view of the black hole if it is in the same plane as we are in?
Yes, there is some thickness to the plane, and earth is probably not at the exact center of that belt, and light gets bent by relativity, but I would still expect the picture to be a lot more oblong and less circular.
But, obviously, I don’t know shit.

^ that video actually gets at most of your questions. The answer to many is we don’t know, unfortunately.

I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Honestly, if that was actually the case then I’d be okay with at least THAT bit of truth.
The more astronomy pushes the limits, the more I realize how little we know about our universe. We are still debating the possibility of an undiscovered planet in our system, which given the math, actually could exist.
fuckin lizard people running the planet almost seems like a comfort compared to the potentially scary shit out in space.
