    Stuff You See in Florida

I'm out here in Warthog's neck of the woods, taking care of my mom. I went into a convenience store and saw these on the shelf next to the batteries. Notice the difference in product, features and warnings.

    WTF?

I assume premium ‘toxin free’ is what you want if you’re going to use it to pass a drug test.

I learned about that stuff from a pretty tough case. It was in a trailer park in Central Colorado, and the dude was Mexican. I guess it's ubiquitous.

Wait, Florida convenience stores keep the "fetish urine" on the same shelf as some douche-flute vape stuff, the kratom, above some kind of tube that says it has THC in it and next to the batteries?

    Savages.

Convenience stores apparently have become a fuck-ton more interesting than I remember.

Walk in that store with the right intentions and the next thing you know you're the star of a youtube video set to Yakety Sax.

About a year and a half ago I did a pro bono case for this woman and her kids. Custody/Divorce. She was undocumented, had 1 young teenage daughter and a 2 year old mentally retarded son from a rape (him). He had them locked up in a small room in the trailer, starving them for control, cameras everywhere, tracking devices on both her and the daughter's phones, and a tracking device on the car. She works at Walmart. Tons of physical abuse between husband and wife (knife cutting wounds abound) and more trauma for the kids than you can imagine. I could go on, but when the cops busted in finally after the daughter broke and squeezed through the small trailer window, they found boxes of that piss next to his computer. He would let her and the kids eat only if he raped her and pissed the room, or he would report her to migra. Your life ain't so bad after working through that pile.

Yes, there are people who do this work, thankfully, because there are some real assholes out there of all types.

She eventually fired me and legal aid wouldn't appoint a new lawyer because she could not stop from physically trying to jump over and kill him every time we were in court together.

Angelica, I wonder how you made out? I keep meaning to go by the trailer and photograph the black plastic coated windows.

Holy shit. I really hope that fucker is getting raped in a Florida jail right now. I’m against the death penalty, as our system seems to put so many innocent to death. But some people just don’t deserve to live.

It’s always been my intention to never ever step foot in Florida.

Death is not the answer, ever. And my Florida is Texas. I think AZ murdered a severely mentally handicapped person today. For reals. Guy was a complete douche, but when a government can actually kill you? That's over the line in my book.

mentally fit to be put to death
Edit: I guess it goes down tomorrow.

Colorado holds the only supermax in the States, and also has a ban on the death penalty and a right to an abortion at any time.

I am proud to live here.

Wow. Just can't imagine what that line of work would be like.

I'm kinda stupid, but pro-bono means you get no fee whatsoever, vs. public defender who gets at least something from the state, right?

^ the point is that while Kate may be pro-bono, she at least earns a salary from whatever nonprofit. As jake later points out with the checkbook.

I think in MTM's situation there is no money whatsoever, salary or otherwise. But always nice to look at Kate. always.

Florence is the only Federal one but there's some supermax state prisons around, there's one in Virginia I know of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Onion_State_Prison

Google sez Fetish Urine is lab-made urine. I guess you could do whatever you want with it but apparently people use it to pass drug tests.

Labs need clean control samples to conduct QC checks. When drug testing programs really took off the volume of natural piss required became prohibitive, so they developed synthetic urine. After all, piss is basically just water, uric acid, salt and creatinine. It didn't take long for some enterprising individuals to realize they could sell this same fake piss to people trying to pass drug tests. There's been an arms race between the labs and the fake piss companies ever since. It's labeled as "research and novelty use" so there's plausible deniability that they're not selling it specifically for people to cheat drug tests. I sure as shit would not trust fake piss from a FL convenience store, but there are more legit (and expensive) companies whose products are pretty much a sure thing: https://www.clearchoicebrand.com/col...tic-urine-kits

I used to know a woman who was the attorney for the Solano County, CA Child Protective Services dept. I never could understand how someone could do that job. Her stress relief was cycling--she rode so much she messed up the arteries to her legs--the external iliac arteries in the pelvis--from the repeated flexing and stretching.

I knew you'd appreciate the chance to see Kate. I know I do, it's the first thing that comes to mind when I hear pro-bono. But yeah, I would assume MTM was straight non-comp unless his firm kicks him some for their attorneys doing pb work. He gets CLE credit for it too.
