Best Vest?
I like a windproof vest midlayer, have used some Marmot vests for the last few years.
But the current one is becoming unseeming.
Must haves are zippered hand pockets.
Highly prefer a zip chest pocket.

Do you want wool or down, or neither? Ibex has a nice wool vest with 3 pockets; LLBean has a nice primaloft vest with 3 pockets

Freeride Systems needs a vest offering. That would be the best.
LLBean primaloft is good, but I live in Maine and shop the local outlet.

Are you talking about the Marmot Driclime stuff from 10-15 years ago? Kind of a slick nylon exterior, soft light interior with little insulation? Those were great.

I'm a vest guy. Norrona alpha 90 is the spot.
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.

Kind of, the ones I've been wearing don't have insulation, the fabric is some sort of wind proof, water resistant stuff.
Basic.
I don't really want wool unless it really cuts the wind and definAtely not down.
I do have and use a down vest in CO and at altitude, but for most purposes, I like the basic.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

Voormi (Vroomi!) is a local company that's recently branched to Montana. I own a bunch of their gear and have been pleased.

I have an Icebreaker vest that I really like. I have the older style, with an outer chest pocket, it seems that they moved it to the inside. It's Nylon outer, and the insulation is made of merino wool, it's thin and lightweight.

If you could do grey or tan, I’ve been digging the First Lite Catalyst vest.

I own a vest made by a company called Straight Down that I use as a mid-layer.I think they are primarily a golf apparel company. Funny thing is that it is not down. Rather it is sort of thick fleece. The company make a lot of different type vests and most have one or even two chest pockets. The Players Vest is nice.
I also own a Patagonia Synchilla vest which is a nice mid-layer that comes with three pockets.“How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world? I don’t know, go ask Rory Gallagher”. — Jimi Hendrix

I guess the proper dialect is "softshell".
Generally, fleece doesn't block the wind but "softshell" does.
And yes, I'm a picky motherfucker who wants it in black, large.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

You want a mid layer that blocks wind? Huh.
Are you wearing it as an outer layer then?… and just want mid layer weight?
I like pata nano or arc atom as a mid layer vest. Not wind blocking though. Wind blocking under a shell will make me sweat too much
