This is one of the oddest QB situations I've ever seen.

So when Lance stumbles they have the added benefit of the entire fan base screaming to put Jimmys Gs in?

Someone explain to me why Jimmys wouldn’t want them to just cut him so another team could pick him up and pay him to actually start?

I'm not buying the SF wants to keep Jimmy around. He is more tradable now that he is getting paid less. In return he gets to veto trades to places he doesn't want to go.

This. And they can make sure he doesn’t go to Seattle.

Which is why I’m pissed at myself for being excited about Cade York.

We know better. We can’t have nice things.

One thing that I heard an ex-pro say (maybe Macaffee? Can’t remember), is that when there is a QB controversy players will inevitably take sides, and so having that QB in the room keeps the team from fully buying in to the new system.

That was before all this, but if the Niners start 1-2 and Lance isn’t firing away, it might not be just the fans wondering if there should be a switch.

There’s enough big time taken on the Browns roster to make him seriously consider it. FFS, it, along with a boatload of cash, was why Watson chose CLE over a complete rebuild Falcons and declining Saints, both of which were finalists to land his circus.

Anyway, I don’t think Jimmys Gs will be on the Niners come week 1. Call it a hunch.

Teams don't wait until September to acquire starting QBs. The Seahawks or Browns noise is just that...noise.
I think the market never materialized for him.

I agree with hatch. That said, I think that if a team with championship aspirations has a QB go down before the trade deadline, we may see Jimmy move.

Does an 11 game suspension count as “going down”?

(FTR, I don’t think the Browns want him either)

Yeah, that's sort of the vibe I get about it, too.

This. Also, if you don't get the value you want then you have the best backup QB in football, which isn't horrible. This was a great move by SF - if they had simply cut Jimmy it would have cost them 8 million against the cap, so they're keeping a trade-able asset and saving money in the process.

Hold on now. We all know Mason Rudolph is the best backup QB in the NFL.

I chuckled. Still, do you guys ever get bored of the Browns joke gimmies cause they're too easy?

    Me neither.
