Delayed by a Covid incident in the family, yesterday I went to get our gear in La Parva, and found 2-4cm of fresh snow. So I skied a couple hours, mostly off piste! Blue lines indicated that the racers were out early.

The drive up had clear signs the national holidays are near.

A feria setting up at La Hermita police checkpoint

A huasa rides up at the beginning of the curvas

    And lo and behold

The nooks and crannies were surprisingly good, fresh on top of hard

    La Muela was skiing good

Health permitting, we will head to Villarrica soon.

For Lliama, I stopped a 100 ft short of the summit because my partner was already transitioning. The first 500 ft was icy survival skiing. For Lonquimay, off the top all the way to the bottom. We took the lifts to help with both ascents because why not

In 2017 some buddies and I were talking about it. We got this great view of the peak from the top of Valle Mesoncito. (Summit is at left and covered in the cloud, Volcan San Jose at right.) It looked really icy and windswept and not inviting. As my Chilean climber friends call it "Marmoleeeeejos".

We skied down a little ways towards the valley until we got the vibes that this couloir ended in a cliff, which it did.

Back in 2010 I walked up Volcan San Jose without skis and got some views of the peak. It looks cool from that angle.

thanks for the photos. My son was down there for work and was going to ski it. I was trying to get a handle on where snowline was and how much vert was involved. Got an email from Banos Morales the other day that he quit. Said he was having trouble with cold and atitude. I am thinking he probably went to light probably no stove and not enough clothes. He did say Some nice couloirs down below. He posts up on TAY sometimes as LilB907.

ID:	426561 Villarrica and Quetrupillian. No summit on either. On Villarrica high winds turned us around but we found an amazing zone of perfect corn with no tracks anywhere. On Querupillian, we knew the weather system was coming in and tried to see how far we could get up. Barely got above tree line. Bamboo in the snow is a real obstacle with skis.

We setup base home in Pucon for about a week so I’ve been skiing various aspects and lines of the mountains up to about 7500 ft elevation where the snow gets shitty. We skied perfect corn, windfucked snow, fast edgeable crust, and cream cheese. After last weekends storm it remain pretty cool so the top is still mostly new rime. We went for the summit on a semi cloudy day and descended of a steeper north east aspect which was clear of rime but very hard and not very skiable. We eventually traversed back over and skied down our ascent route.

    Ski Chile 2022

Weather looks good for the next week, a dash of snow Monday then a spike in temps. Chapelco closes the 30th, we may go there, and/or Antillanca and/or Cerro Bayo.

Not skiing but I am trying to find a flight I can afford to Puerto Montt area last 3 weeks in February. Any tips on flying somewhere close and taking other transportation or something?
