Of note for those headed up to Portillo the next few days

Looks optimistic, or pessimistic, as you will. “Organize your trip” chaps.

But this fcst dampens things a bit

This long weekend is the peak for skier attendance, and as today was bluebird, LP had the biggest crowd of the year. They were overwhelmed

Lady speed stick provided the vibes. I wouldn’t have skied today, but we got the grandkids for the day, and out up to 3.,400m!

The groomers were great, and Fabres lift finally opened. Fingers crossed for a Sunday night blessing to honor the Assumption of the Virgen on Monday.

One thing led to another, clouds above and clouds below, then whiteout! That same center of ops:

    Still crowded.

Now alternating brisk freezing fog and escarchilla. Might bind well. Hoping for real flakes later.

This months quarterly forecast first highlights the high July precipitation.

But keeps predicting lower than normal rainfall for the ASO quarter, and reminds us of the ongoing drought.

Santiago has a 33% deficit this year.

The crowds are gone, now the proportion of racers training is over 50% of total skiers.

The barometer is falling, more is coming!

    Ski Chile 2022

Looks like 20 cm, and I have a meeting today

Slava, jet lagged and on opposite time, is back in action at dawn and sent me this

    Portillo says 32cm

Portillo today crushed it! The storm Sunday delivered more wind than snow. But today was everything you could hope for on a ski trip.
They didn't open the Roca Jack side, so that ensures an equally epic day tomorrow.

A powder day in the bank. How great is that?

Of course, we will have to share it with 400 people. The highway has been closed for days.

There is a magic in this place, it doesn't always reveal itself, but when it does, shit howdy!

Yes, another great day to be alive!

    The 3 Valleys by Slava

Wind mucked as well, on the N/NW slopes. Given the slack run maintenance, and timing, lots of runs were powder.

    Expect spring-like conditions from Friday.

Once again the good coverage from the last two storms meant there were tracks pretty much everywhere in LP. Enough remnants were left to a provide a days powder skiing tho, and in spite of a good wind ruffling, the snow was dry/cold and not too heavy.

Which meant those remnants were lonely as well.

This is new, and represents progress, I suppose: Check your beacon before heading into the upper bowls of Cerro La Parva.

Slides are still happening, detonated in this case

The temp in LP at dawn was about +3C, but the snow was packed powder.

    Downwind on Vegas

The “new” Capacho run was groomed.

    Still found powder

    Fun was had by all

And I spotted the elusive snow poodle

Unfortunately, the heat is on, and slush appeared near the bottom by the end of the day.

Final day at Portillo yesterday. We are flying to Puerto Montt today and driving to Bariloche tomorrow.
This was our 7th time at Portillo and was the best week we've had. Great snow conditions, delicious food, and many friends, old and new.

We also added in a day at Ski ARPA. Spectacular place, highly recommended. Remote location, amazing views and great terrain.

Good stuff. Dav’s Instagram stories have definitely been showing Portillo at its best.

Very cool on getting to Arpa. I was chatting with Anton at toddler gymnastics this Spring and he was hopeful that it would all come together after a few years off. Really stoked to see them get some snow and business back in the mix
