The Toyota tax is a killer... Is there anything particular to watch out for on 06-10 Odysseys? There are lots of those in the right range compared to Siennas.

I had a 2006 Odyssey and loved it, put 200,000 miles on it.
That platform was known for having a small transmission but I never had an issue with that.
I did upgrade the brakes for lot larger units because I was driving in the mountains so much.Well maybe I'm the faggot America

Sorry, missed this before.
Seats are reasonably comfortable. Not the best I've ever sat in, but worlds better than the Subaru that our Sienna replaced. I haven't spent much time in the 2nd and 3rd row seats, so I can't say much as to the comfort back there. I didn't notice them to be bad on a short around town trip though. Our Sienna is the XLE. I think it has a different fabric on the seats than the LE, but I'm not sure how different it really is.

We still have our 2001 Odyssey - has 245K miles on it. Transmission was a weak point in this gen Odyssey. Ours was replaced around 70K miles under some super-secret warranty extension program that just covered the trans.
Those long-running Honda vans sure don't owe people anything.

Saw one of these bad boys on the road last weekend. The Toyota Hiace. How come we don't get those? Interesting van! Looked loaded. MX plates of course.

Good question. Ford makes a mid sized Transit for other markets that looks like it’s smallest iteration is just a bit bigger than an Astro. Then there are longer wheelbases and higher roof versions. We can’t have them here for some reason, even though one of the places they manufacture them is Mexico. I saw one in Texas once. Lots of them are converted to campers in Europe.

I'm joining the minivan crew, put a deposit down on a nice '15 Grand Caravan. https://www.ppmny.net/2015-Dodge-Gra...M95eTdpBQkU%3d I need to get the driver's seat reupholstered and should probably get the tranny fluid changed since I don't see the last time it was done but otherwise it looks road ready. I'm picking it up on Saturday.

Lol. To get to the right price range I had to give up the lux aspects and shoot lower. This is pretty basic but shouldn't have as many ChryCo gremlins as the T&C with all the goodies. I found 2 pick 'n pull yards sort of locally that only do these minivans so parts should be available like the hitch and roof rack (and better driver's seat) that I need. This one lived near me it's whole life and surprisingly has no rust which is nice.

I'm gonna go give that van above a good solid look through Saturday afternoon, what specifics should I be looking at? I know the motor has a thing for eating rocker arms, would they make a similar sound to other clickety things high up on the motor? Is there a dipstick for the tranny (the other potential weak point that I know of)?

The Toyota tax put the good ones just out of reach this time around. I was able to get one that isn't too old, it's a 15, and has no rust which is a big one for me. It also doesn't have any electrical "goodies" so I'll hope for fewer oddball module failures. Of course it has the attendant dings and foibles any 160k car would but no sunroof so no leaks there, no rear ac so none of the stuff either. I'll get a hitch and some crazy roof setup and it'll be a sufficient road tripper for a while, I bet there are some really useful (and cheapish) cargo racks for the ubiquitous ChryCo minivan.

I'm going to replace the rear shocks soon because I'm getting some annoying wheel hop and I'm trying to decide between simple (aka cheap) OE level replacements or load assist coilover type. I often have a couple of ebikes on a rack back there which adds ~200 pounds well behind the rear axle so I think it makes sense but will there be a downside when it's unloaded? If I go with them should I also be thinking a heavier duty strut up front?
Next is tires. Does anyone else think that these things should've been speced with higher load rated tires? I know the shit that's on mine are mushy because I've driven the brand on other cars and also thought they overrated their capacity but it feels like the sidewalls are rolling under in corners. I'm looking at the Goodyear Enforcer because of the tougher cop tire aspect and all weather rating (as opposed to phony all season bullshit) but are they too stiff a sidewall for a minivan?
