Vintage Drum Set
Anyone know anything about vintage drums--any value beyond a few bucks for used drums.
My little brother had a set of about 1963 Ludwig drums and at least one Zildjian cymbal that a band mate of mine later bought and have been sitting in my attic for decades. Do I explore selling them as collectible or put them on Craigslist for spare change?

my bud had a set of vintage gretsch drums in the early 2000’s that he picked up at a garage sale. listed them on ebay and they went for 3k plus ship to japan. idk about these but vintage drums can go for a lot. good luck.

Didn’t Ringo play a Ludwig kit in the early days of The Beatles? I would think you just might have something there.
Perhaps do an advanced search (Vintage Ludwig drum set) for completed listings on eBay to see what the market sez?

Go up in the attic and find some serial numbers. The cheapest 1963 Ludwig kits I see online are $2500.

If the Zildjian was made in Turkey it should also be worth some $$. The big, old, hand-hammered rides are amazing.

I think we need some pictures. I bet they look cool.
Just the vintage & brand means they are worth something.

Vintage Drum Set
Once you find more information about the drum set (to help narrow your search) you can find previous sales in Reverb to see what people actually paid for them.

I'm a Slingerland guy but plenty of demand for 60s Ludwigs and OG Zildjians..
Post them here. They'll also have advice on shipping hacks.. Facebook group but your target market is geezers like me.

"sitting in the attic for decades" might be an issue. Check and see if the wrap (laminated outer decor) is cracked or coming loose anywhere. These drums might need to be re-wrapped if that is the case. A few minor issues is fine... "player's grade". Lots if cracks or delam will tank the value a lot. Might even be better to part it out if they're cracked and peeling up badly..

Sounds like I have some work to do.
I don't particularly need the money but vintage instruments should be played.

I'm pretty damn curious as a drummer myself. Especially if the cymbal is an OG handmade Turkish ride.

The branding stamp is really the only way prior to 1994 when they started using serial numbers.

I'll probably take everything to the local store that did an appraisal on my 64 strat a while back. When I sell them the appraisal letter will be useful to document age etc.

Salt City Drums is our local go to drum shop in SLC. Good helpful guys there. With some pics and serial numbers they may be able to ballpark a price for you.
