John Deere L111 lawn tractor troubleshooting

I borrowed a L111 lawn tractor a couple days ago and somehow killed it. Looks like it had just been serviced and not yet used for the season by it’s owner. It started up good, maybe a little rough on the first start but then great on each following start. Managed to mow about 1/2 acre with no problem then couldn’t get it to start up again. Last thing I did was cross a kinda rough flower bed with the blade up and it died when I tried to re engage the blade. Now it cranks hard when I turn the key but doesn’t start. Anyone familiar with this mower know if there is something that can be jostled out of place like a safety switch or something? Hoping there is something to try first before I have to go through every part on the machine. Gotta get this in good running order ASAP

Fuel, air, fire. You need all three to start. If it's turning over but not starting make sure you fuel getting past the filter and have spark at the plug.

I have an x360. There is an automatic shut off level in the back just below the gas tank. I wonder whether yours has the same, and somehow it was activated by wayward brush, or something???

I had a very similar problem with my Scag mower. Turns out it was just a bad fuse.

You're gonna need to take care of that safety valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And you're gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.

More than a few times I get skunked as to why my mower won't start and it's because I left the blade lever engaged while trying to restart after nailing something.

This past fall I went through a whole deal trying to find the solution to a similar problem as yours with my Cub Cadet with no luck and finally discovered this simple fix (after 3 minutes or so).

lol Got it started and finished mowing last night. Figured out the tank doesn’t drain all the way and dies with about a pint left. larilinesign had already suggested it probably just needed moar gas but of course I made a thread and went through every part on the machine before I hiked up to the shed to grab a gas can

Kinda like electrical appliances? They work best when they are plugged in.

The word level should be lever or toggle....sort of resembles a choke

On mine that pull rod is the drive train disengagement. You pull it out if you want to be able to push the machine around. You can start the engine with it pulled out but you won't be able to move anywhere.
Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.
